500 This is an announcement group and you do not have permission to post to it.
The owner has set up the group for announcements from owners and moderators only.
If you are owner, you can change that. Go to Admin, Settings, Spam Control. Change to restricted if you wish to approve members before they join. If you don't want this, untick all those but make sure that you have New Users Moderated and change the number of posts before they are unmoderated. You must choose from among these four options. At least one of these options must be set as a spam-control measure.
?
Restricted Membership - Moderators must approve any new subscribers.
Announcement Group - Only Owners and Moderators are allowed to post.
Moderated - ALL messages are held pending moderator approval before being sent to the group.
New Users Moderated - Messages from new subscribers are held pending moderator approval. After the set number of consecutive messages are approved, the subscriber is automatically unmoderated.
If you choose Restricted only, you do not need to moderate ANY messages, if you wish. But you will have to approve new subscribers. There is no Spam Control setting that will allow a new subscriber to join your group without approval and immediately post an unmoderated message. Hello Beck,
You should check your group's settings under Admin > Spam Control to ensure that the box labeled 'Announcement Group' is not ticked. If it is ticked then deselect it and choose one of the other options which is appropriate to your group, then click SAVE at the bottom of the page. If it is not the case that the 'Announcement Group' box is ticked then it could either be a problem with the settings of the members who are receiving this permission denial message or there might be some sort of glitch. All messages from members have been blocked for 2 weeks in this group. Only the Owner can post. She is not great with computers
Sure enough, after many promptings she finally acknowledged that "Announcement Group" was wrongly checked under Settings->Spam Control After many more promptings she insists that she un-checked that option and did click "Update Group" at the bottom (I asked for reassurance several times.) Yet all my messages continue to be blocked for the same reason, dozens of them, including up to 6 hours after the "fix". Is there some bug where this Announcement Group status won't change back, or takes a day or more to become normal again? Group name available if needed. Doug in Ambler |
开云体育Doug,After many more promptings she insists that she un-checked that option and did click "Update Group" at the bottom (I asked for reassurance several times.) Have a look at the group's home page. If it says this, then she didn't succeed: When she clicks the blue Update Group button, a confirmation alert in green should appear at the top of the page: Without watching over her shoulder it is hard to guess where she may be going wrong. Is there a possibility she has more than one group, and is changing the wrong one? Is there some bug where this Announcement Group status won't change back, or takes a day or more to become normal again? I don't believe so, at least I saw no delay in my test group. 开云体育Shal, yes, you are right, the Home Page Group Settings has “Only moderators can post to the group”, so she is failing to turn off the “Announcement Group” setting. Glad to hear there is no bug associated with the setting. I will keep trying to talk her through the simple steps. Have already sent clear graphics and gently urged her to make me Moderator if only temporary. ? Thanks for confirmation, Doug ? From: [email protected] <[email protected]> On Behalf Of Shal Farley
