Text messages to T-Mobile users via groups.io #addmembers #sms

I tried inviting myself as a test; I can be texted at <my-phone-number>@tmomail.net ¡ except that the message is rejected with "Failed - 550 permanent failure for one or more recipients (xxx@...:550 Sender IP reverse lookup rejected)"

Looks like T-Mobile doesn't like groups.io sender addresses. Is there a workaround?

Raven -- I can't speak to the error message. I will say that groups.io uses SMTP to send group messages, not SMS. It seems unlikely that anyone attempting to sign up with a texting-only address will have a satisfactory experience, even if they are successful.

A groups.io mobile app is under development. There has been no release date established, but with the continued Y!G influx it seems reasonable that will be pushed back.

What is being used is an e-mail address; phone-number@tmomail.net. It works fine when it send mail directly, it doesn't work when I send a groups.io invite.

Sometimes email systems do strange things to prevent spam.

I you are able to, use an other email address at all.

Tracking down such problems is time consuming, a other email address much more simple.

If you are in need to use this address then send from the group to an other address, make a forwarding to this address and put this address as an alias in your goup.io account so that? the system will recognise you when you answer via email from this address.

sounds complicated, but is simple. :-)

Here's info on creating an email alias - /g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/Profile-and-Email-Address-and-Merging-Accounts?

Raven,

I tried inviting myself as a test; ... except that the message is
rejected with
"Failed - 550 permanent failure for one or more recipients
(xxx@...:550 Sender IP reverse lookup rejected)"
If you want to pursue this ask your carrier specifically what that message means. Groups.io's outbound server should pass a reverse lookup, Gmail and other services seem satisfied enough with it.
