Invites vs Applying to Join

I had a question and couldn't find it easily by searching. ?We sent out a large number of invitations to our organization's members today to start up discussions on groups.io. ?A small number of those invited members with the same email addresses/accounts are instead finding our groups.io page and hitting apply to join. ?I was surprised that it doesn't automatically recognize their email as an invited member. ?Is there a setting I missed in the invites? ?Or is that just how it works?

Thanks!
Linda

For better or worse, that's how it works.? If you approve folks using the Join button, you can compare your member list with the invitations and delete the ones that came in that way.? You can also delete/cancel the ones that have accepted if you'd like to make the list a bit shorter.

At some point, groups.io has to send every address associated with a new account an email to confirm that the person who provided it actually owns that address and wants to receive group messages there. The invitation serves that purpose...clicking on a "Join This Group" button? Only if they already have a groups.io account (i.e.: they've already gone through all that) and happen to be logged in.

So while it may seem on the surface that groups.io ought to recognize the address, pair things up, and just let 'em in...there's quite a bit more to it than that.

Hope this helps,
Bruce
