Downloading group from Yahoo while waiting for transfer
I've initiated a transfer of a Yahoo Group. I'm now waiting for Groups.io to accept the membership invitation.? I also want to download from Yahoo to my computer whatever Yahoo is willing to download (my guess is, pretty much the same as what will transfer to Groups.io).? If I initiate the download from Yahoo now (i.e., early in the transfer process), will that delay (or totally screw up) the transfer to Groups.io?? Would it be better to wait until Groups.io has received the material from Yahoo?
Thanks in advance.? It is really nice that we can actually get answers to questions on Groups.io. |

Apparently YG has a limit on the traffic for each group.? If you're using the Dashboard to ask for a download, it shouldn't make any difference.? If you're using something like PGOffline or downloading directly, it might conflict with the GIO download and create delays. Duane,
Apparently YG has a limit on the traffic for each group. There's definitely a limit of traffic with each connection to Yahoo Groups. Which is why PG Offline and similar products need throttle controls to keep them from getting locked out. I've never heard of a limit on traffic for a specific group (but that doesn't mean you're wrong!). Lately I have been able to download thousands of messages at full speed then a 1 minute pause, and continued to download. Only once did I get locked out of one of the several groups I was downloading, and I was downloading in up to 6 separate sessions of PG Offline. They opened up the bandwidth and made their controls less sensitive to downloading thousands of messages very quickly. YG is both "choking" user download and delay posting the last posts.
I have been downloading over 20 sites the past few days.? Starting last night they started "choking" or throttling? downloads .? We keep keen eye on the net conditions, ping tests, etc.? The slow down is YG.? I have also found some of the sites appear and then disappear in front of our eyes.? YG is shutting down servers and since they are redundant servers, the remaining ones are choking. Verizon is planning on building a new package to compete with facebook and google forums and such.? So they purchased YG structure to gut it and build something new. I fully expect there will be more competitors to gourps in the near future.? Going from a 5,000 dollar project to a 100 million dollar project in 24 months.? Server capacity is near to noting in cost now days. |
