Link in email to groups messages not working

Hi all,

My first post here, hope you can help me. ?I did try to research the matter on the beta group without success.

I get our group posts as individual emails and have noticed within the past several days (I?think?it started on Wed or Thursday, 12/21 or 12/22) that the links at the bottom of an email that (used to) take you directly from an email to that message on the groups.io site have changed.? The "view/reply online" link is different than it used to be.? It used to look like this: (they are all links, not sure why some turned out black when I copied and pasted them here)

and if you clicked on the "view/reply online" it took you directly to that message number.? If you clicked on "view all messages in topic" it would take you to the entire conversation so you could read all of the posts in that topic.? NOW it looks like this: (again, they are all links in the email, but don't look like that when I copy/pasted them here)

and if I click on "view/reply online", ?instead of taking me directly to the message, it takes me to the Home page of our group:????Then I have to go to "messages" and then search for the message.? If I click on "reply to group", very oddly, it takes me to my address book!? Same thing if I click on "reply to sender", it takes me to my address book to add that person to my address book.? The "Group Home" and "New Topic" buttons seem to work just fine, taking me directly to those places on the groups.io site.

I read/reply to messages via email, but I frequently used that link to go to the groups.io site to view the messages first to see if there are any other replies. ?Has Mark changed something?? When I searched the beta group I found this conversation, (/g/beta/topic/footer_placement/3822895?p=Created,,,20,1,0,0?)?and it was right about the time of this change so I am guessing, that Mark changed something with those links?? He only said he?moved?the footers, not changed the links. Scroll down to the end of that discussion for the part about changing the links.? Any chance we can get this "fixed"?? Should I post to the beta group? ? I know Mark is gone until Jan 4th, so was hoping someone here might be able to shed some light on this for me. I think most folks on our list get the messages via daily digest or "no email" as we frequently have a TON of messages/day and it can be a little overwhelming, especially to newbies. ?So I haven't seen any complaints about it--yet.

Thank you for any light you can shed on the subject!??

Maggie

Maggie,

I get our group posts as individual emails and have noticed within
the past several days (I /think/ it started on Wed or Thursday, 12/21
or 12/22) that the links at the bottom of an email that (used to)
take you directly from an email to that message on the groups.io site
have changed.
For me it started on 12/20 with the New HTML footer announcement (#12221):
/g/beta/message/12221

The "view/reply online" link is different than it used to be. It used
to look like ...
...
and if you clicked on the "view/reply online" it took you
directly to that message number.
Yeah. Kind of embarrassing that apparently no one noticed until now that the pretty new footer doesn't actually work.

If you clicked on "view all messages in topic" it would take you to
the entire conversation so you could read all of the posts in that
topic.
Nor that we lost that link altogether.

If I click on "reply to group", very oddly, it takes me to my address
book! Same thing if I click on "reply to sender", it takes me to my
address book to add that person to my address book.
These two are deliberately mailto: links, which should open up your email user interface. But they're intended to open it up in a message composition window, pre-filled out with the To and Subject. Those still work for me. Maybe those have never worked for you?

When I searched the beta group I found this conversation,
... and it was right about the time of this change so I am
guessing, that Mark changed something with those links?
Yes, but later. See the above citation.

The broken link is clearly a bug, so I'm cc'ing this message to [email protected] so that it gets put into the bug list.

The way the links were changed in how they appear. I happen to like it better this way.

Hi Shal,

Thank you! ?I thought I was the only one having this issue, so thought it was me, LOL! ?

I went back through more old emails and yes, it looks like it started at some point on 12/20 for me as well, tho the ones early in the day are in the old format. ?

"Reply to sender" and "Reply to group" definitely take me to my address book and not a message composition window, and I do think it's a new problem for me since the links changed. ?They are not links that I frequently use, so cannot be 100% sure about that. ?Could also be a comcast thing?

Thank you for getting this on the bug list! ?I really miss that link working!

Maggie

Funny, we were all looking at how it looked and gave Mark our seal of approval, but nobody tested it.:-)
