Has Anybody actually heard back from Groups.io?

I would like to pay the $110 to get our email archive migrated.
?
#1 Has anybody actually heard back from groups.io? Heard from a real person? Has anybody gotten word about how long this will take and how much of a back log there? is?
?
I did send a query request yesterday and did not hear back on that. And that was before I knew we had to go the pay option because I set the account up in 2016 but did not do the move.
?
It might take months for them to get through a backlog--there may be 10,000 requests for a transfer.
?
#2 Is it really just one guy doing the work?
?
We might lose all functions at Yahoo before our group gets migrated.
?
#3 has anybody done the pay route and gotten the process started--seen stuff moving over yet?
?
#4 Does anybody know if we can start conversing on the new group if we intend to have our emails imported?
Would that mess up the transfer. Do we just sit and wait?
?
#5 will we have search ability for our archived Yahoo messages?
?
Feel free to type your responses between the lines.
I almost feel email is a bad way to do this discussion. We need a Slack board or something ( :
?
Thanks for your help and I feel your pain.

Karen -- You are hearing back from me.

The process is semi-automated so the people doing the transfers don't have to do a lot of hand-holding. I believe the most succinct transfer instructions can be found in this email:??/g/GroupManagersForum/message/8697? But I may be a little biased. :-)

I did send a query request yesterday and did not hear back on that. And that was before I knew we had to go the pay option because I set the account up in 2016 but did not do the move.
I do not know what you might mean by a "query request."

It might take months for them to get through a backlog--there may be 10,000 requests for a transfer.
Or there might not. Many folks are unwilling to pay for the service. Of those who have, several people have reported success with their transfers today.?

#2 Is it really just one guy doing the work?

I don't know how much help Mark might have. He does not read this group. If you want to know how much of a backlog there is, you could ask a question to that effect in the beta group ().

#3 has anybody done the pay route and gotten the process started--seen stuff moving over yet?
Yes (see above).

#4 Does anybody know if we can start conversing on the new group if we intend to have our emails imported?
Would that mess up the transfer. Do we just sit and wait?
You can start using the target group if you want to. The advantages to waiting until the transfer is complete are negligible.

#5 will we have search ability for our archived Yahoo messages?
If you mean the messages that are transferred by the transfer agent, the answer is yes.?

Thanks for your help and I feel your pain.
The stress level is pretty high for everyone, and it's unfortunate that Yahoo Groups has put so many people in this position.?

Regards,
Bruce

Yes, the group can function while the transfer is in process. We had
ours operating before we started the transfer.

I did mine while it was still free while most people were saying Yahoo
Groups will continue the way they are forever. Now we're dealing with
the aftermath in many groups I don't own but am a member of.

I created new groups for some of those and made an announcement about
the new group, and I invited the current Y!G group owners to contact
me and I would make them owners. Of the few I did that for, only one
is going to do the transfer as of right now, whether or not he gets
enough donations to cover the cost.

Karen,

I did send a query request yesterday and did not hear back on that.

Probably too busy doing it to talk about it.

It might take months for them to get through a backlog--there may be 10,000 requests for a transfer.

If there were that many, at $110 a pop, I'm sure he'd be able to hire some help.
#2 Is it really just one guy doing the work?

I think so. Together with the automation he's built for most of the steps.
#4 Does anybody know if we can start conversing on the new group if we intend to have our emails imported?

Not really a problem. The posts would be intermingled in message number, but when you look at the Messages or Topics list it is sorted by date so that doesn't matter.
#5 will we have search ability for our archived Yahoo messages?

Yes!

If that''s what you need, you're really in . ?

I began the process on Tuesday at 9 PM; that’s when I created my group and paid for the upgrade.

I invited ?to join my Yahoo Group at about 7:30 Wednesday morning (yesterday) - the first step in doing the transfer.

The transfer was completed today at 12:30 pm. I just sent out my first two messages and everything seems to be working fine.

There were a bunch of photos that didn’t transfer because of Yahoo problems, but only about 9 messages. My group is a freecycle group, so that didn’t really matter much to me.

I had a question that I sent to [email protected]?yesterday, around 9:30 am, and I got an answer from Mark Fletcher around 4:00 pm that day.

Now, admittedly, I may have gotten in before the rush.

Yes, our group goes back fifteen years and had 1500 messages, they all transferred over, just took a few hours for them to show up.

We started some test conversations before the transfer, no problems with that. I'm not sure if any were added during the transfer itself.
?
#5 will we have search ability for our archived Yahoo messages?

Yes, there is a search tab at the top of the messages page. I just tested it, picked a word that just appears in four of our 1500 messages and got the results instantly.
?
Unfortunately, our photos haven't come through yet, but I blame Yahoo for that. When we first did the transfer we couldn't see them at all, so I didn't expect them to come. But then they appeared again last night, we did a second transfer. We see placeholders for all the pictures and albums, but not populated. The photos appear again this morning in Yahoo, since I no longer have any pending transfers I'm going to try again.
?
On the transfer instruction page on groups.io it does give this message:
"Also note that it appears that most Photos sections are currently having an outage and it isn't known if they'll be restored prior to the deadline."
