How to transfer Yahoo Group to io when original owner of Yahoo group has died #transfer

How can I transfer members of a Yahoo group where I am a moderator?? The owner of the group died several years ago, and he was the sole owner.? As moderator, I cannot invite the new member to the Yahoo group that groups.io requires to initiate the transfer.? Any suggestions would be gratefully received!

You could open your new group on io ... then send the members a letter letting them know that you¡¯re moving and because of the situation, they will have to request membership. Then you just send them invites.

Thanks, Ellen!?

I was hoping to do a group transfer.? But realize that may not be possible, and so have started adding members as you suggest.

Michael,

As moderator, I cannot invite the new member to the Yahoo group that
groups.io requires to initiate the transfer.
More important than the "Invite and add members" privilege, is "Add, remove, and change moderator privileges", but I'll hazard a guess that if you don't have the former, you probably don't have the latter either.

One way to find out is to go to the Manage Members page, switch to the Moderators tab, and click on your own row, anywhere to the right of the green crown. If you get an Edit Member pop-up dialog you're golden: give yourself all the Moderator Privileges and Save the dialog. If nothing happens, you're out of luck.

Failing that...

How can I transfer members of a Yahoo group where I am a moderator?
You can export the Manage Members list, then use a program like Excel to extract the email addresses and format them in a way suitable for use with Groups.io's Direct Add or Invite page.
/g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/Direct-Add-From-Yahoo

You can upgrade your group to Premium for one month in order to use the Direct Add feature. You may find that more convenient than Invite, especially if there are a large number of members in your Y!Group.

Speaking of which, if your group has more than 1000 members the Y!Group export won't do. You can try the chrome app from YahooGroupedia:

There's also an app to export your group's Messages.

Another option is PG Offline:

These options won't allow you to get your Y!group's content (messages, files, photos, etc.) into your Groups.io group, but they can help with the members. And at least you can have an offline copy of some of the content as a backup.

Shal
