Website name change

Is it possible to change the name of your Group?
Not just the Home Page layout but the actual IO Groups name.

Mick,

Not just the Home Page layout but the actual IO Groups name.

Yes you can.

What most people refer to as a group's name is the group-specific part of the Group Email Address:

That name is also used in the group's web address, for example.

Note that changing the group's name (addresses) does have predictable consequences for the members of the group. Please read GMF's wiki page on Renaming a Group for some considerations, and post again if you have more questions or any comments about the wiki page.

Mick

Our travel group considered a name change so it could be more easily found in the list of groups. We decided on an easier solution - formed a second group for owner and moderators. The description invites members to join our main group and gives a link.

If you change the URL of your IO Group, but only changing some letters from upper case to lower case, will that impact on the links in messages or the have the need for members to change their address book etc .....

Mick?

I just did something like this with my test group (I changed two letters to upper case). Everything still seems to be working fine.

Also, if you browse to any page in your existing group and manually change the case of letters in the address bar of your browser (the name part only), the URL still works.

Finally, I also just attempted to create a new group that had the same name as my old group, except all the letters were in upper case. The system would not permit it.

All of this lends credence to the notion that group names are NOT case-sensitive. Having said that, I'm unsure that I would have attempted this with my main group without a really?compelling reason to do so.

Frankly, this loose talk about changing "URLs" and "website names" makes me a little nervous that we might not be on the same page. To be very clear (it's important to have NO ambiguity in situations like this), I'm talking about changing the string found in the Group Email Address in the General block in the group settings, as Shal indicated in his previously-posted screenshot.?

Hope this helps,
Bruce
