what's the purpose of the "show quoted text" button?

I've just noticed this in the past few days and am not finding any references to it being a new feature in this group nor the update one.? Any insights would be appreciated!!

Angel,

what's the purpose of the "show quoted text" button?

Click it and see.

Hidden beneath that button (until you click it) is any quote of a prior message (or messages) that a member may have left in their reply. The intent is to hide such "clutter" in the display of a topic, yet keep it available in case you want or need to see it.

It used to display as an ellipsis button (three dots), but a recent change gave it descriptive text instead. There's also been a more recent change to improve its accuracy in detecting quoted text as distinct from sig lines and other original text that may be below the quoted text.

It simply replaced the former triple dot button with something more descriptive and, being blue rather than pale grey, more visible.

It's applicable to Groups.io as a whole.? It was also discussed to the beta group, where a great many "features in flux," or new features get discussed.

Angel,

... and am not finding any references to it being a new feature ...

It would have been easy to miss:

> CHANGE: Changed wording/color of the button to expand/collapse quoted
> message parts.
