People subscribing but unable to post.

Hello Everyone,

The subject says it all.? I checked my invitations and the group address is correct.? But subscribers say they get an e-mail back saying “incorrect address.”

?

Given that the email must say something more than "incorrect address" it would be very helpful if you could forward a complete copy of the email rather than just two words.

Who is the originator of the returned email? Is it Groups.io or some other organisation? Is it all subscribers or just some of them?

Also have a look at your Activity Log to see what is reported there. Are (some) subscribers trying to post from email addresses that are not those affiliated to their Accounts?

Do all invitees have this problem, or just a few?

I think you may need more detail from your invitees. Specifically the exact text of the error message being reported by their email service. But here are some other ways to check it out:

One possibility is that they are posting to an address that isn't even Groups.io. A version of this is that they're getting that much right but have a typo or other problem in the group name. To diagnose this, ask them to post again but CC you so that you can inspect the To address in their message.

Another possibility is that they didn't actually accept the invitation, and they're getting back a "not a member" error from Groups.io. In this case the Invitation page should show them as "sent" but not "accepted". Or they did accept the invitation, but are sending from a different address. This case you can diagnose by looking at your group's Activity logs. Attempted postings by non-members should be logged there. This is assuming you have not elected to allow non-subscribers to post.

At the time of this writing, this is the only information I had.? I just started the group last night.

?

Since the time of this writing, someone did post their welcome message when subscribed, and I think I know what happened.

?

When I was first putting the group together, the name I was going to use was jobs-chat.? Then, in process of setting up, decided to use jobs-blind-chat, which is a better reflection of what the group is.? I saved the settings, then posted my invitations.

?

The welcome message this subscriber posted still had the jobs-chat as the e-mail, not the one I had changed to.

?

I am new to groups.io, so please remind me where I can find moderator settings to check.
