per subject reply to sender only? #settings #question

I did look in the Admin options and didn't see such a thing, but I'm wondering if by any chance there is an option to have the default for a certain subject be "reply to sender only" while keeping the default as "reply to group" for all other topics.

I'm guessing this is too specific of a wish and doesn't exist, but no harm in asking.

Thank you.
Su

I don't know about that option but one way that might be easy to do is with a special hashtag.
Its usefulness will likely depend on whether you allow members to create hashtags or not.

Sort of.? After the message posts, you can go to the Topics list and click on the little down arrow to the right of the date/time it was posted.? There you can select Override: Reply Only To Sender.? Unfortunately, this can't be done while it's pending.

As Frances said, you can also do it with a hashtag.? You'd need to create the hashtag that you want to use, choosing the Reply To option you want.? Then you'd either need to train users to use it or apply it to the topic yourself.? It could be applied during the pending approval process if you use that, or added later by editing the topic.

Thank you for the suggestions, Frances and Duane!

One question to clarify the "Override: Reply Only To Sender" option -- I am guessing this change will only apply to those replying via the web interface, correct? IOW, people replying by email will still get the group's default "Reply To," since it can only be done after the message goes out?

Thanks,
Su

Yes, the "reply-to" address for emails that have already gone out would be incorrect, and could lead to some confusion.

My experience with using hashtags with "reply only to sender" set is that emails that I purposely returned to the group within the same thread were rejected with a 500 error. It seems reasonable to assume that if you manually changed this setting on an existing topic the replies would do the same, but I have not confirmed this behavior.?

See??for the thread in beta in which this feature was introduced.
?
Hope this helps,
Bruce
