Bulk Removal of Messages

Just transferring from Yahoogroups to Groups.IO and discovered there are way to many messages in the group. Is there a way to do a bulk removal/deletion/export of messages based upon date or topic. Would not like to have to delete the messages one at a time.?

I inquired a while back about the same thing. Unfortunately I was told they have to be removed one by one.

Well sort of, yes. Firstly there is a world of difference between deleting messages and topics. Delete a topic and all the messages within it vanish as well.

There is a way of deleting in batches, if not actually in bulk. Starting at your topic view, add -test to the URL and go to it. This produces a checkbox beside every topic along with some possible actions at the top. Check the boxes for the topics you want to delete (might be a good idea to start with your oldest topics!) and then click Delete at the top.

I don't know what your preferred Items Per Page is but it might be worth changing yours to 50 or 100 rather than the default 20; the setting is in your Account > Preferences, not in the settings for your group Subscription.

Hope that helps a bit.

Chris

You were told, acknowledged it, and said you would be using it:

I just tried to search for "Bulk Removal" to see when you asked and no such message from you shows up here except the two you posted about an hour apart today
What's the message number of your original question?

Oooops then I didn't understand it when I first was told about it.
But I understand it now and it worked like a dream.
Thanks. ?

For my purposes this worked like a charm
It was a brand new group and I only had 269 messages to remove.
So removing 50 at a time didn't take that long.
Thanks so much for letting us know about that procedure. Ilene?
