So no PRIVATE MESSAGING, right? Any hope it will be implemented?

Edited

Disappointed upon searching that PM's don't exist in the IO Groups, right? So the members simply email each other?

Janie

THE ABOVE SHOULD HAVE SAID "So no PRIVATE MESSAGING BETWEEN ONE MEMBER TO ANOTHER"

Private messaging in the context of group discussions is possible if it is enabled for the group. See Admin>Settings>Message Policies>Reply To and uncheck the box saying "Remove Other Reply Options." See also?/g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/Replying-privates?for further details on this.

Group Owners (and Moderators with proper permissions) can send private emails to anyone in their group via either the Member List or the Directory.

Regular subscribers can also send private emails via the member Directory, but only to those subscribers who have created a group profile and enabled sharing.?
?
Hope this helps,
Bruce

If it's not so much the Private and more the Messaging that you're interested in, you could use the Chat function.

When replying from the web page, members compose their reply in the reply window and then need to click on the PRIVATE button in the lower right hand corner below the window to reply to just the sender.

By the way, I mean the ability of one member to "private message" another member via the system. Not about overall group privacy. Just the ability to "private" message another member. Yahoo had it and am surprised IO doesn't.

But the Chat function is not a private conversation between one member to another, correct? I'm referring to what Yahoo had and still has---the ability to send a message directly to another member, so that only you and the member you message are in the conversation, and you and the member are the only ones who can see the conversation between you two.?

That's what the Private option does, albeit via email.

Duane, so the only way in IO for one member to communicate directly to another member privately is just to email them, correct??

You can enter a private message to someone via groups.io, but they are received by email only...they are not made available online, or even retained in any way by the system that I know of. Perhaps that will be a feature of the groups.io app, but for now it does not exist.

Sorry,
Bruce?

Janie,

Members can initiate PM's to other members via the group's Directory - if the Directory is enabled in the group and if the member you wish to contact has opted to make his/her profile available to other members.

This method sends an email to the other member, without you (the sender) needing to know the other member's address. But your address will be exposed to the other member (the email will be From your address) so that the other member can reply to you privately, by email.

As Bruce mentioned, there is (as yet?) no Inbox or other means to receive such private messages within the Groups.io web interface. So you can only initiate the private conversation here, replies must go through email.
