When I reply to a person, via groups, it's bounced back, using

XXX@...

instead of XXX@...

Am I doning something wrong? It seems fundamental that we can reply directly to the poster on a group?

What you're seeing is the sender email encoded inside an email address fabricated by groups.io when it sends out the post.? The "@" symbol can't be used in the username part so it is replaced with an "=" symbol.? Groups.io needs to do that in certain cases.? It's discussed further in this thread.
If you receive mail in html format, there are links for Reply to Group / Reply to Sender that provide the correct address.
Otherwise, you'll need to edit the email address to remove the "@groups.io" and change the "=" to "@" to use the address in the From: field.
