Printing, Forwarding, and Saving Messages

There seems to be no way to print, forward, or save messages from the archives. Am I missing something?

We often move messages between lists by forwarding them, and send them to ourselves to become part of report. This is important.

In the Admin | settings | message policies, set for Allow Members to Download Archives. Then SAVE. This should show a button at the top of the Topics/Messages list to Export Group Data. That gives a menu of items to export.

I hope that helps,

Bart

Other than exporting, as Bart said, there are no functions like that on the site.? Some of those, particularly forwarding and moving between group/subgroup have been discussed on beta, but no changes have been made recently.? I don't know if there will ever be a way to move between groups since that could get quite complicated as far as programming.? Another option that has been discussed is to be able to email yourself a copy of a message from the archive.

The simplest way to perform those actions is to use the copy you get in your email to forward or save.? If you really want it moved, you could delete it from the original location after putting it where you want it.

Thank you for responding. This allows people to download all the files in categories ¡ª messages, files, etc. I love this feature when I¡¯m doing research, but I¡¯m not sure I want anyone to be able to do that. And with an archive of 60,000 messages, almost no one wants to.

The need is to be able to print, save, or forward one message. Or even a group of messages as the result of a search. It appears that this is only available with copy and paste.

Sharon,

I rarely print emails, but I found a very simple way to do it if you want to print from your group page. Normally you print emails from your email client, but who wants to save tens of thousands of archived posts ... that's what io is for, right? My solution, Use Firefox as your browser. Here is an example. I opened a post via my group's page. Using the Firefox browser's very top menu line, I clicked on File ! Print Preview. You will see this type of output, which is not pretty, but there's good news ... Firefox makes it easy to clean it up. See below.

Enabling the Simplify Page button will strip out the menu crud showing up on the left. This is a very nifty feature of Firefox and I have no idea if it is available in other browsers, but I would not be surprised. My version of Firefox is Quantum version 63.0, which is the very latest update. Even if you don't like Firefox, you can simply keep it around only for the times you want to print and use your regular browser for all else.

Thanks to Bart and Duane for the work arounds.

The issue is forwarding old emails, ones that have probably been deleted on a personal computer years ago.

Where is the wishlist to add features ¡ª or do I just use the Beta list?

Unfortunately, this feature is available only in Windows desktop PC version of Firefox.? Bummer for Mac users.

The beta group IS the official suggestion box for the site.? If the topic exists over there and isn't locked, you could give it a bump.? Otherwise, a new topic for a suggestion is fine.
