Join the group

ok, once again I seem to be backwards.. ?we have an application process through our website and do not want people to try to join through the main page. Yes I have information on the info page saying that, but I just got another person trying to join the group. We will be direct adding members after an application process.

is there a way to prevent the request to join?
thanks
Beth

Is you check the Restricted box in the Spam Control settings, this will disable the "Join this Group" button on the main page. However, the subscription email address (groupname+subscribe(at)groups(dot)io) will still appear, and I don't know of any way to turn that off.

One of my groups is in a similar situation. We have an active Member Notice of type "Pending Subscription" that has helped to head things off somewhat.

It reads as follows:

"Thanks for your interest in the {groupname} collaboration site at groups.io. {Groupname} is a restricted group for members of the {club}.?

If you are an active member, you will be added to the group as soon as we verify your entry in our membership list.

If you have recently sent in a membership application, your request will be granted as soon as your application is processed. Please understand that this could take a day or two.?

Information on how to join the {club} may be found on our web site at {URL where our application is located}.

Regards,
The {Groupname} Moderators

The ability to post to our group is a significant benefit of membership in our parent organization.?We purposely keep our message archive public so people can see what's going on; and in so doing, hopefully attract new members. Having people who aren't yet members apply to the GIO group can be a nuisance, but it is also an opportunity.?

Hope this helps,
Bruce

Thanks Bruce,
I do have it restricted, but since I'm already an owner I figured that was why I didn't see the button.? I am going to copy your member notice and get it set up to see if it will help.

Are you referring to the Restricted Membership check box and its effect on the "Apply for Membership in this Group" button?? I'm afraid that checking that box does not remove or disable that button.? (I wish it did, as that would be an excellent workaround to the "NC" issue discussed in a different topic.)

Oops, you (and Beth) are right on that one. Might be a good suggestion for beta.

Bruce?
