PDF Files Now Instead of Opening are Forced to Save to Computer

Bill

Suddenly today, all my PDF files in my files folder, when clicked on, defaults to saving to the computer, not opening them immediately.

What changed ?

Bill

Either a glitch or something changed in your browser.? I just checked a couple of PDFs on my group and they opened in the browser.

Perhaps you are using a different browser?

Using Chrome, the files open up for me in the browser. I have to right click if I want to do a save to file.

?This happened immediately after uploading a bunch of PDF files and I received a time out error from Groups.io (I guess).

Since then, I cannot open a PDF from the site but have to save it.

I need help on this.

It's definitely in your browser.? I had it happen several years ago under similar circumstances and fixed it by installing a fresh version of the browser so that it used all default settings.? I don't remember the details, but a setting got changed in the Applications menu.? If you aren't familiar with those settings, you can either try to find someone that is or load a new browser, either your current one or a new one.

The file upload dialog box often has trouble displaying PDFs as thumbnails. But this should not affect the upload, nor should it affect your ability to subsequently view them. As for downloading...

...when you click on a file of any kind, all groups.io does is send it as a binary stream. What your computer does with that depends on your own settings. My guess is that you inadvertently disabled "view in window" as a browser setting for PDF files. The easiest way to fix it will likely be to reinstall either Acrobat Reader or the browser itself.

I hope this helps...further help will require more details about what browser and device you are using.

WOW, that did it.

Thanks so much, I never clicked on that thingy in the upper right hand of the screen (Firefox)

Thanks,

Bill

Thanks Bruce, the issue is solved.

Apparently for some reason, a setting in Firefox flipped to "Save".

Prior to that is was "Open" in the browser.? I believe the TOE did something to make that setting flip although I have no idea how but all is good now.

Thanks.
