Hello folks, I'm having some issues getting my group situated here. I am call owning a group with a friend. And we had decided that we wanted to screen members that are coming into our group, but not postings. Just because we know who are subscribers will be.. Because I can't seem to find the proper action that I need to take. I tried explaining to Mark what I wanted, but he has not gotten back to me.?

Joseph,

What our group does is send out a "pending member notice" containing a short questionnaire that must be returned via email. You can find the pending member form in

Settings --> Member Notices --> Pending Subscription

and fill it out to your liking. It will automatically go out from the +owner address to the pending member. The pending member's response will go to the +owner address, and then you can decide whether or not to approve the member.

p.s. Also in your Settings, you have to check the box that says "Restricted." That makes people "apply for membership" rather than just "join," and allows the pending member notice to be sent. Then you can approve the pending subscription or not.

Jay, that's not what I'm morning. Right now the way my group is acting as my members are to joined instead of applying for membership. So therefore, I don't end up approving them. They just end up sending me a notification that they have joined. I'm not wanting to fill out the questionnaire. I'm wanting to know, where I need to go in order to change my group settings in order to reflect this change.

Okay I got that fixed. Now it's just a matter of figuring out how to get the postings on moderate it once they have become members. Hopefully this will fix my problems. Because what he did is emitted to complete moderate a group and that's not what I wanted.

Joseph,

If you want to moderate (approve) all messages, then check the box that says "Moderated." Leave it unchecked if you don't want to approve messages.

Okay Jay, now I have that fixed. What I want to do now, is make it to where they apply for membership instead of the join I went and checked don't one box that I'm able to see as an owner as far as moderating goes. I seen nothing about approving applications. Maybe I'll just wait and see if Mark replies.

Joseph,

And we had decided that we wanted to screen members that are coming into
our group, but not postings.
Simple. As J has mentioned both controls are in the group's Settings page, under the Admin drop-down in the left hand column.

In the first section (General) leave empty (or uncheck) the box next to Moderated. This establishes a group policy which allows members to post freely, except those members who may have a moderation override set in their subscription. Ask if you have questions about new-member moderation or other aspects of the individual member subscription controls.

Also in the first section, just below Moderated, put a checkmark on Restricted. That will cause memberships to be held in the Pending list until you approved them.

I tried explaining to Mark what I wanted, but he has not gotten back to me.
He's trying to stay focused on bug fixes and feature development, so he prefers to let us users help each other out where practical.

Mod note: I sometimes miss an email notification when moderating from my phone.
I pick them up later when I get to my desktop.
