Move latest/individual messages from Yahoo to groups.io?
#transfer
Hi Everyone,
groups.io was great at moving my group from Yahoo to groups.io? The problem is - I have scheduled a smooth real cutover from Yahoo to groups.io for a date in the future In the meantime, users continue to post in the yahoo group, new topics. By the time our cutover date comes, we will have a gap and missing the latest topics on groups.io Is there a way to transfer only missing topics since the first transfer, or move individual topics from yahoo? Thanks, Motti |

Put your Yahoo group on Moderation, reject the messages, and explain to anyone who posts there that the groups has moved and they need to send their posts to the new group. After a few cycles of this your members will get the idea. Hope this helps, Bruce ? -- The system Help is your friend.??/static/help |
Motti,
The problem is - I have scheduled a smooth real cutover from Yahoo toAs I imagine is obvious in retrospect, the cutover should have been coincident with the transfer. Perhaps even calling a halt to messages in the Y!Group immediately before giving the final "go" for the transfer, if you're concerned about messages left behind. But I do understand that with the unpredictable queue delay that may be unacceptable too. Is there a way to transfer only missing topics since the firstNot officially, but there is a means to do a second transfer. You can delete the record of the original transfer and schedule another, targeting only the areas you need. HOWEVER this mechanism was intended for situations where you left some areas out of the original transfer, and now want to transfer just those areas. That could have been the case if, for example, the Yahoo group was effectively non-functional in some areas at the time of the original transfer, but is "better" now. I don't know what would happen if you scheduled another transfer, this time including only the Messages section. You are probably better off asking [email protected] about it before just trying it. Appreciate all the answers, unfortunately,?I could not have scheduled this to coincide with the transfer, as groups.io never tells you when the transfer will be done... I could have asked for a halt in messages, you are correct. We are a fishing chapter and our members are super excited to post their fishing reports, so would have been a problem... thanks for the answers?

Re: Move latest/individual messages from Yahoo to groups.io? #transfer
From: Motti TadmorI have done this by forwarding the relevant individual messages to the new list when it gets set up. The body of the message includes the original dates, etc. I would keep the old list active until the new one is set up, then close the old list to new messages.
