clarification on direct add feature
Alan Robbins
¿ªÔÆÌåÓý? ? Hello, ? I recently joined this forum and wanted to share an experience to see if it has worked differently with other owners. ? I recently moved a group over to Groups. IO and decided to give the direct add a try. I paid for the one month premium service at the cost of $10. I submitted over 350 legitimate email address and once approved got a message that 181 had gotten added. The remainder I had to send a link for them to subscribe, which is exactly what I was trying to avoid. . ? Couple of questions for you more seasoned/experienced owners/moderators: 1. Is there a wait period to have them approved? If so, why and how long? 2. Will all addresses be added or will I run into a similar situation? In other words, is there a limit of direct adds? If so, can I submit in batches? 3. On the group I just used direct addon, I simply cut and pasted the addresses into the edit field, each one on a separate line. Would it be better to upload a .txt file with each address on a separate line? Look forward to responses. Best, Al |

?Yes, if you Invite or Direct Add more than 20 addresses in a 24-hour period.
?
?The "why" is spammers, the "how long" is indeterminate - it is a manual process.
?
In my own experience once approved for an initial Direct Add my later ones were no longer deferred. But I don't know if "my" means me as an individual or if it would apply to any owner/mod of that group. Nor do I know if others would have the same experience.
?In my experience the entire batch was deferred, and then the entire batch added.?
?
?That seems to differ from your report of some being added immediately and others not.
?
I had ?some in the batch not get added because typos made the email address invalid (user2example.com instead of @), and others were added but immediately had Bouncing status - again usually typos in the user name or domain.?
?
?
The form may not handle leading or trailing spaces on the line, I think I ran into that in some cases.
?AFAIK it shouldn't matter. I was working from an Excel spreadsheet and created a column containing
Display Name <user@...>
for? ?each person to be added. I then copied the occupied cells of that column (a couple hundred rows) and pasted it directly into the Direct Add form.? That is, I excluded from the copy Row 1 (which had a column heading) and the empty cells below the bottom row in use.

Hi Shal,?
New group owner here. Searched for direct add member notifications and this seemed most on topic. When I Direct Add to a subgroup the members are receiving two notifications, one that a moderator has added them and one that appears generic. So when adding to 4 subgroups the member is receiving 8 emails, which I'd like to prevent for the rest I need to add.? 1. Is there a way to Direct Add without two emails to members?? |
Adam,
When I Direct Add to a subgroup the members are receiving twoThe "You've been added" notice cannot be avoided. You can add your own text to it, but you can't edit the boilerplate or turn it off. The other is likely to be your group's Welcome notice. There is a default Welcome notice for each group, but you can edit it as you please or make it not Active (if not Active it is not sent). See the Member Notices tab of your group's Settings page.
