Error message at retrying yahoo transfer #transfer #yahoo #issue

Heijo Alting

Dear all,

A couple of weeks ago I aborted my first attempt to move a yahoogroup to io because nothing seemed to happen. Now, with my second attempt, on entering the same yahoogroup name as in the first attempt, I'm confronted with an error message. What can I do to solve this. Does someone at io have to 'reset' something before I can start again? The error message on entering the yahoogroup name (a valid name of an existing group) was:That is not a valid Yahoo Group.

Enter just the group name, not the domain information.?See?/g/GroupManagersForum/message/8697

Hope this helps,
Bruce?

I overlooked this part on first read. In addition to leaving off domain information when designating the Y!G name, you may also have to delete the pending request.?

Go to?/yahootransfer?, scroll to the bottom, and select the group name from the In Process menu. If present, there should be a button at the bottom of the resulting page to delete the pending request, at which point you are ready to start over.

Hi Bruce,

Thanks for your help. Both on my first (aborted) and second (current) attempt I only entered the group name without domain info or any other symbols. I don't think there's a pending transfer process, since the 'In Process' box is empty now.

How can I solve this?

You have created a new group here to receive the content, right? That's Step 0 of the instructions.

Failing that, I think we will need a screenshot of the error message that you're getting.

Bruce

?Heijo,

What is the URL for the Yahoo group? Perhaps there is something unusual about the name.

The 'In Process' box always looks empty. You have to click in it.

I know, I clicked on it, but it's still empty.

If it's empty, then you either have no transfers pending, or you are logged in under a different email address than you used when you tried this the last time. Is that a possibility?

Bruce?

Hi Bruce, I've been using one email address only, all the time, and there are no pending transfers. There's no reasonable explanation for the error message.

Kind regards,
Heijo

Another way to approach this problem is: what are the criteria for io to decide if the yahoogroup name I enter for a transfer is valid or not? Are these criteria detailed somewhere? Is this group name field case-sensitive?

I don't think so. The key is that it must be the "name" of a Yahoo Group. Specifically, the text you put into the Web Address and/or Group Email field on the About Group tab of the Y!Group's Control Panel. Not including any of the grey text outside those boxes:

Is this group name field case-sensitive?

I don't know, but if you copy from the field in the Y!Group's control panel you can't go wrong. I think.

If that still doesn't work, then I think you have a case you need to take to [email protected] to resolve.

Dear all,

Today I received a message from the support team: the problem was caused by a bug and this bug has been smashed.
