In our application, it would be helpful if members had a place to
include their mailing address in their profile which could then be
downloaded for snail mail.

If you drop that into the Groups.io "suggestion box" (the beta group) I'll second it.


That would be handy in my classmate groups - we're a bunch of people who've kept in touch for (far too many) decades in real life, so most of us don't mind sharing real-world contact info (address, phone number, etc.) with other group members.

We use a database table for that now, but it has a bit of an out-of-sight, out-of-mind problem -- the group Directory is more visible.

Not sure how/if GDPR would come into play, ...

Me either (IANAL) but given that filling in the info would be purely voluntary, and would be for the express purpose of sharing it with other group members, I don't see a practical problem.

In the Admin Settings, there would be a checkbox that says “Include personal contact information in the member profile.”??The box would default to un-checked so those groups who do not want to collect personal information would not be affected.

Then if this could be downloaded as an Excel (or CSV) file it could then be easily used for mailing.

What would be even better is the ability to add your own extra fields and if these could be available to users when they join a group.

Our group are all members of a national (UK) association and we have to check their membership number and address.

So if we could add membership number and postcode(zip) as extra fields . Users could then supply these when they request to join.

At the moment we have to send them an automatic email to ask them for this information.
