Disable Members from reading Messages from Homepage

I just opened up an IO Group. My members are used to Yahoo groups, In Yahoo I had the archives or conversations unavailable to members. I'd like to do the same thing for IO Groups as some members are responding to the messages from the homepage and requesting signature tags from closed offers. I need that information to be only available for Owners and Moderators. What do I need to do in order for that to happen. Ilene?

Ilene,

That option is not available in Groups.io.
?
I think your only option would be to post it in the official "suggestion box" as a new option for the Messages section:

At present, the only thing you could do to make them unavailable would be to delete them. But that would make them unavailable to the moderators/owners too.

Well what I did was I made them unavailable for non subscribers. So that is a good thing.
?
Then I went to each message and locked them. This way no one could request a tag from the archives.
They all need to be requested from their email that they receive.
If I wanted this to be a message board - I would reopen my proboards forum LOL
?
But thanks, I will make it a suggestion. It would be a good idea to have something where only the Mods and Owners could have access to.

Reopening this thread based on our brief discussion in beta. Here is my proposed work-around, in hopes that it might help you. Keep track of what you're doing so you can undo it later if necessary.

Go to Admin>Settings.?
Under Message Policies, click on the checkbox that says "Hashtags Required."
Pull down the Hashtag Permissions and select "Posts by subscribers can only be tagged with existing hashtags, otherwise the message is bounced."
Click Update Group

Now click on Hashtags from the left menu bar and click on the Create Hashtag button.
Name the hashtag anything you want, starting with a pound sign (#)
Select the "Locked" checkbox.
Click on the Create Hashtag button again.

Now your group has one hashtag, and it is required. It will lock the topic immediately upon posting. What you have to do now is train your subscribers to use it every time. They have to place it in the subject line of every message, preceded with the pound sign (#). Notice how I placed the hashtag #Ilene on this message.

If they don't do that with your new hashtag, their message will be sent back for revision until they add it. This is not the same as a message delivery bounce.?

On the whole, this may end up being more of a nuisance than your current problem of having to manually lock topics yourself. Only you can decide.

Hope this helps,
Bruce?

Okay I think I understand what I need to do.
You explained it very well.
?
Now since there are only a select # of?members posting to the 2 groups where this has been a problem, the group (taggers) they will be the only ones required to learn what to do.
?
I will?propose this solution to them and see if it seems feasible and something they would like to do until?or if a change in the program can or will be made.
?
The other option that I just thought of is making them moderators and let them have the ability to lock their own messages once they make an offer to prevent members from requesting from the messages and not from the email.
?
Thanks again! Ilene

Sounds like a plan. Just keep in mind that to have them lock their own messages they will have to be logged in and using the web interface. The hashtag-lock option works either way -- online or in email.

Good luck,
Bruce?
