Yahoo Groups Transfer Timeframe

¿ªÔÆÌåÓý

Hello -

I am new to and this forum. ?I am attempting to transfer a Yahoo Group to and am not having success so far. ? I have created the new/replacement geoup in , initiated the transfer process at?/yahootransfer, and invited the user?[email protected] to the Yahoo group. ?So far I have waited about a week with no response. ?The only information about a delay is posted on the page at?/yahootransfer?but it suggests a delay of a few days. ?I emailed?[email protected] late last week to inquire but so far have not heard back other than the auto-reply acknowledging receipt of the email. ?

Does anybody here have any insight into what the current Yahoo Group transfer time frame is and/or what I should expect in terms of responses from?[email protected]?

Thanks in advance for any help you can provide to this newbie,

- Pete

Welcome, Pete!
The problem is most likely that you've managed to request a transfer coinciding with the couple weeks Mark has taken off for vacation. While part of the transfer may be automated, Mark has to manually perform the act of joining the group because of the 'captcha'. He should be back in a few days and you should see some activity soon.

Hello Peter,

Part if not most of the transfer process is manual.? The person who does this process, Mark, was on vacation last week I think until or through yesterday.? As well any other person in the queue ahead of you would go first.? That is the reason for the lengthy delay.

The man who initiates the transfer is on vacation and will not be back until tomorrow. It may take a little more time than usual due to most likely a back log of transfer requests. Keep in mind that a lot of groups are transferring now due to the problems at Yahoo groups. Be patient a few more days. I'm sure Mark will get back to you as soon as he can. Also keep checking your members list at Yahoo for the email address ([email protected]) and when you see it, make sure to make it a mod so it can have access for the transfer. Because of Yahoo email problems, I never got the notice. It was just there. You can then go back to the process and look for the next step. If the button is there to continue the process, just click it and continue. If not, you may have to wait another day or two, but keep checking it. The hardest part of the process I thought was just waiting for the transfer. Another thing to check, is to be sure none of your members are bouncing or on no mail before the transfer starts.

My group has been in the queue for about two weeks and we are also still waiting. I suspect the backlog is pretty large so we can expect to see another week or two wait before the logjam gets cleared out.
?

Thanks all for the information!? Very helpful.

Given the (now understandable) delay and the issues our group is having communicating on the Yahoo Group, I went ahead and sent out invitations to the new Groups.io group. ?

If I understand correctly based on reading elsewhere in this forum, when the Yahoo Group transfer finally happens, it shouldn't impact those already signed up at Groups.io.? Am I correct?

Thanks,

- Pete

Pete,

If I understand correctly based on reading elsewhere in this forum,
when the Yahoo Group transfer finally happens, it shouldn't impact
those already signed up at Groups.io. Am I correct?
That's correct.

And it has a minor consequence: addresses that are already in the Groups.io group will be skipped during the copy operation - which means that their original Y!Group join date, their Delivery setting, and their Posting Privilege won't be copied.

Also, if they sign up at Groups.io using a different email address than they had used in your Y!Group they will end up with two subscriptions, one under each address. Any content they had posted in the Y!Group will be "owned" by the address they had in the Y!Group.
