Yahoo might be dead - transfer questions

I've invited [email protected] to our Yahoo group twice now, and it doesn't seem to be working. For that matter, none of my emails are going through to the Yahoo groups list, so I'm worried that Yahoo is entirely dead at this point. I'm thinking of just starting a new group, and hopefully reaching a majority of the old list via private emails, FB, and other social networking by each other.

If I just start a new group, and Yahoo comes back up eventually and does the transfer, what will happen? Will the transfer overwrite the new members? Will we have duplicates?

I'm SO frustrated that I can't even communicate with our mailing list at all right now.

Thanks,

-Michael

The guy who does the transfers is on vacation until May 2nd or 3rd, I believe. There will not be any transfers until he gets back.

[mod note: he said "delayed", which may not be the same as "deferred until my return".
?But it might be.]

I apologize. I should have answered your other questions. If you create a group and have your members sub themselves, the transfer will not overwrite them. The transfer recognizes each member by their email address. However if they subscibe with a different email address, they may end up subbed twice, so if you contact your members to sub themselves, be sure to let them know to use the same email address they used at Yahoo groups.
?
Yahoo groups is not completely dead. I am still getting the occasional email from there. Not many, but some.

I feel your frustration guys! I am feeling it all over through many of?the groups that are still there and asking me how to move here. I think if I had no other choice but to go back to Yahoo Groups, I would simply close my groups down. Never again do I want to feel that kind of frustration!

Michael, for what it is worth, my yahoo groups are functioning. I have delayed transferring to io since several of the groups I own are school/parent/PTA related and summer would be a better time to make a transition. I am hoping yahoo will make it until then. In the meantime, I am reading about io, learning, and experimenting with a private group I have.?

Also for what it is worth, I have some messages not go through, and have had to resend them a couple of times, but lately - the last few days, messages are being delivered.

Thank you so much for that info. That helps to explain why 'nothing' is happening. :-)

Thank you to everyone for the immensely helpful and informative information! My needs are not particularly time sensitive, so I can certainly wait until next week when the person who does this returns from vacation.?

My group has been in the queue to be moved for about a week now. I'm not sure how many are ahead of me but received a notice they will be taken in the order received.

Hmmmm,
? I've been involved in several transfers in the past 3 weeks - none of them
took more than a couple of days.? These were all small groups of under a
hundred members and small amounts of messages, files, etc.
? If you are having trouble or delays ... perhaps you haven't done some
thing or other that is necessary?? If your transfer has been accepted
but not started the key items I know are to make transfer.io a moderator
and -then- to give the go ahead.??

Since Mark is currently on vacation, there may be additional delays for another week or so.

Jim B.,

Yep did all of that but still no joy! Maybe the process is broken.

I just had a 1000+ member group transferred in less than two days this week.

Mike Conder

On an earlier transfer, I thought it was taking too long.? So I checked the Easy Transfer link and found out that the transfer was held up until I answered a question about files sizes.

So you might check to see if there's something like that happeneing.

Mike Conder

And where might we find the 'Easy Transfer link'?

Jim
?

I just searched the web for " easy transfer link¡± and this was the first result.

Yes I looked at that page. But I still don't see where anything about my specific move would be listed on that page as seemed to be implied earlier. Guess I will sit back and wait it out and see what happens over the next week or so.

If moving from Yahoo, you'd need to go to the /yahootransfer page and look at the bottom right.

Thanks, Duane. There was nothing new there but I told them again to proceed in case the first one failed to transmit.
