How to make payments from a small non-profit
#Discussion
Currently I pay with a personal credit card for our small non-profits page. ?(We are a quilt group with 112 members.). I¡¯d like to switch this to our treasurer but the group does not have a credit card. ?Can we do an ach payment from our checking account? Can we use a debit card tied to that checking account??
What do others do in this situation? |
My understanding (generally) is that as far as the payments system is concerned, there is no great difference (except over the amount of service charge/commission) between debit and credit cards: it is only the paying card issuer which is really bothered, as to how it gets the money from the actual payer.

I've always used my debit card, from the group transfer forward. Groups.io just sees it as a credit card. If for some reason the monthly transfer doesn't go through, you get a warning message from groups.io and a chance to rectify the situation before anything dire happens.

It would seem that at least one member or Board Member could handle the payments and that the nonprofit would reimburse them for the outlay.
The reimbursement could be for each month or annually. This shouldn't be rocket science. It sounds like a great deal of worry about an extremely small amount of money. -- Bob Bellizzi The Corneal Dystrophy Foundation |
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýBob, ? I know what you mean. While I was thinking about moving my group I didn¡¯t think any of the members would be willing to pay anything, especially since the YG didn¡¯t cost anyone a thing. It was my personal decision to move and keep the group together, and I didn¡¯t ask anyone for money as this was my own pet project¡A hobby if you will. I have has a couple members offer to pay, but the amount it costs to have our new home is so small, I easily pay for it every month by not going out for coffee so much. ?
