Getting Logged-Out of Groups.io unexpectedly . . .

Gentle GMF.io Members,

I know this has probably been discussed to soe etent already, but . . . .

How often and under what circumstances might one find him- or herself unexpectedly logged out from Groups.io groups?

?

It has happened to me twice now and I have not knowingly deleted any Groups.io messages as spam prior to being logged out. (Logged out, not unsubscribed.)

?

Is this a usual occurrence or is there something else I might be doing that would cause this to occur?? ?

?

It doesn't seem to be for lack of activity on any my registered IO groups as I do visit them regularly at least several times per week.

?

Comments?? Suggestions?

?

Regards,

?

Paul,

unexpectedly logged out from Groups.io groups?
I think the lifetime of the log-in cookie is 30 days.

If you delete your browser cookies, or your security software does, that will effectively log you out as well.

It has happened to me twice now and I have not knowingly deleted any
Groups.io messages as spam prior to being logged out.
Completely unrelated.

And Gmail doesn't do the Feedback Loop thing, so you wouldn't have been unsubscribed even if you had.

Did you get an email about it? Any message at all? But you say no unsubscription notice.
Hard to tell without more info.
Are you logged in with a password or did you just use "send me a link"?
I would add a password - top right corner in the menu headed by your name.
Perhaps knowing what device, operating system, browser might help.

In addition to Shal's comments, you will also find yourself logged out if you attempt to access the site using a different device/browser.

?I don't think so, Bruce.

I am logged in using Chrome and I am also logged in to the same account using MS Edge. In fact, just for funsies, I started this reply in Chrome and I am completing it from the Draft using MS Edge.

Not my experience. I use my MacBook and my iPhone.
I think the issue may be how he logged in. I have a password and my devices both know my password. Easy to create one!

Each browser/device will have a login cookie.? I use a desktop at home, but a laptop when traveling, so usually have to log in at my first stop on the road.? As long as you've logged in with each device/browser, that one will be fine for 30 days.? On most, you can have it remember your login information if you want, so very simple to log back in when needed.

If you access the site on any device/browser combination that doesn't have an active cookie, you will not be logged in.

Yes, but all that proves is that you have active cookies on both. You still had to log on separately for each device.?

Thanx Shal & others . . .

That answers my question: It's an automatic, cookie-based, periodic log-out.

And to a couple of the other respondents: No, I didn't get any email notification. Nor did I did use a different device to access Group.io.

So Shal's response presents the most apt explanation based upon my log-out experience.

Much appreciated, All!
