Start to Finish Message Transfer
Al Silverstein
I noticed that the transfer of one of my lists from Yahoo Groups to groups.io has started.
I have not received a email indicating that the transfer took, or is taking place. It appears that all of the active memberships have been transferred. It appears that all of the files and photos have been transferred. What does not to have been completed is a transfer of all of the messages. According to the message count on the Yahoo Groups list there should be a little over 212,000 messages. On the Groups.io list there is a little over 29,000 messages. My question is how long should I wait before querying [email protected] about the missing 183,000 messages? Al |
Because of limitations on Y!, the transfer can take some time, especially with a lot of messages.? You might want to take a look at the thread /g/GroupManagersForum/topic/13367649 and especially post /g/GroupManagersForum/message/5483? You should be notified when the transfer is complete, including a report of issues found.

¿ªÔÆÌåÓýDuane,
?
I have only become concerned because I already have members who have found
groups.io and are questioning why messages have not yet shown up.

I kept my new group on restriction (as much as possible*) and did not permit anyone to join until the transfer was completed. I realize that advice is too late for you but perhaps the next person who has a large group to transfer will benefit. Bruce *Perhaps like you, we have public archives and there's no option to make them temporarily private. |
In our case, the archived messages (~150,000) were transferred about 3 days after everything else transferred. I happened to notice it while it was happening, and it threw me for a bit of a loop. (See this thread?/g/GroupManagersForum/message/5450). And it was fascinating to watch the home page of the group as they were transferring as the numbers kept changing over the several hours it took to transfer all the messages. Dave |
