Change my email, multiple groups

Hello
I'm a long time multiple group owner.? I'm 86 and my technical skills are fading.? My question is, since I've recently had a change in email addys, is it possible to change to my new email Addy in ALL of my groups at one time?? FYI. my old email account can receive but not send emails now, and even receiving will be terminated shortly.
Thanks in advance for any advice.

Sure. First, go to /settings
?
From the Member's Manual:

To:

Follow these steps:

Change your email address

  1. In the New Email field, enter your new email address.
  2. Click?Change Email.
  3. In the Verify Email Change popup that appears:
  • Carefully review the new email address, which is displayed in bold, and ensure that it is correct. (If it contains a typo or other error, click?Cancel?to return to the Account page, then reenter the new address and click?Change Email?again.)
  • If you are certain that the new email address is correct, click?Yes.
  1. When you receive a confirmation email from Groups.io at the new address, reply to that email to confirm the change.

Note:?

  • This change applies to all groups you are subscribed to at the original email address.
  • If the new email address is already registered with Groups.io, a page appears that explains the?account merge process?and prompts you to verify that you want to merge your Groups.io accounts.
  • If you made a typo when you entered the new email address and you did not notice before you clicked Yes to confirm it, see?Recovering your account if you enter an incorrect email address.
Regards,
Bruce

Hello, yes, this is possible. If you can log into the old account, on Groups. io meeting with the email address and password or an email me a login link. Then click on your name, go down to account, clear out the old email address, and entering the new one, and then when you get an email at the new address, click the link to confirm, login with the new email ID and its respective password, and this will merge the two accounts. You will need to check the box that says yes I understand, when changing the email ID. To make the change go through. But other than that, you should be good and Golden.

merging accounts only occurs when you try to change to an email address that is already registered with Groups.io.? There have been reported problems with the merge process and the general advice has been to steer clear.? Follow Bruce's advice and just change your email address to one that Groups.io knows nothing about yet and then you will be fine.

Andy

Thanks Bruce but I tried those steps over and over with no joy.? I can't send on my old email addy and can only get in groups as a member using my new email addy

Since you've already created a new account, you wouldn't be able to change the address on the old one, only merge the accounts.? That's not recommended if you own groups.? Unfortunately, you'll be stuck joining all your groups with the new account (and then removing the old one).

To change your email address, you MUST figure out some way to first log in under the old one. That's the only way groups.io can ensure you're the account owner.
?
If you can't do that, you're stuck.
?
Did you create a password under the old address? If so, you can log in using that, or try using one of the social media logins. /helpcenter/membersmanual/1/understanding-groups-io-accounts/logging-in-to-your-account?
?
Failing that, you'll simply have to create new subscriptions using your new address and petition those group admins to remove the old one. You will lose "ownership" of content you provided earlier, but that cannot be helped.
?
Sorry,
Bruce

Thanks Bruce, but it seems like it should be easier than that for us older non-tekkies.....and what to do if there are no other Admins in some of the? groups I previously owned?

I would contact the other group owners in your groups through the group-owners email addresses to see if they are around. (The addresses are on the homepage of each group.
Say what you plan to do. Ask them to promote you to owner again.

Truth be told, the problem is that Yahoo made it so bloody convoluted to change your email. When Mark was developing groups.io, he intentionally made it very simple. Just go into your account and change your email shown and save that. It's like changing license plates on a car - you don't sell the car first, you just change that tag. But people are so used to having to go to all kinds of trouble that they don't comprehend just how simply it's done.

The instructions I posted, were because he was saying he was able to get email from his old email address. The only thing he was missing, was that he needed to send an email login link to the old email address so that he could go in and change that email address. Others have reported that they've never been able to get the merge thing to work, when I've done it, and it's worked just fine. I've never had a problem of getting the merge account to work. And even as a blind person, and that speaks volumes. I would almost rather him forward me the email me the login link and provide the email address to the old account, and the new email address, and I will help him complete the merge. I've had no issues of doing this for other individuals.

Thank you Duane.? Actual help would be very much appreciated as too much of my minimal tech savvy has gone over the bridge.?
Yes, I still can receive emails on my old croberts@... but have been notified that will be only for a few more days.? I cannot send on that email.

I have been able to activate my new email (croberts91938@...) on ONE of the groups I own by using another Admins help, however that is not the main ones I'm concerned about.? They have no other Admins on board and contains all messages, personnel, survivors, and photos of the old White Alice Communication System from back in the 50's-60's during the cold war...would be a real shame to lose them..? Also when trying to access some pages I get a "clear text not permitted"....may be part of my problem.? Whatever you can do to help me will be much appreciated.

That makes things somewhat easy.? Go to the site, make sure that you're logged out, and ask for a password/login to be sent to that address.? If you get one, don't use it yet!? Now go to the site and login with your new account.? Go to the account page and choose Delete My Account at the lower right.? You'll have to type in "I understand" (without the quotes) in order for it to actually be deleted.? Once you're sure the new account has been deleted, use the link that was emailed to your old account.? Once you're on the site, click on your name at the upper right.? Then use the instructions that Bruce gave you earlier to change the email address for that account.? You'll get an email at the new address that you'll need to reply to that verifies the change.? At that point, I believe everything is done.? You should be in all of your old groups with the same status as before, just with a new address.

I'm probably not doing this right, but I want to take this opportunity to thank everyone who offered their assistance here to my email problem.? Special thanks to Joseph Hudson, who got on the phone with me and worked through the whole process of actually solving my problem for me because it was beyond my skill level.? He is amazing, offering his time and extreme technical talent to bear on my problem and sticking with it until solved....asking only that I " Pay it forward"....which I fully intend to do as that is my philosophy when I help others as well.? This 86yo Marine is very thankful that Mark created and operates Groups.io, and that this group and so many talented volunteers are here to help us " low teckkies" get along.? Sincerely, MANY, MANY THANKS.

Oh, you're welcome, it was definitely my pleasure to help you. And while I'm here, I would also like to let others know, that when you're helping somebody that is in the Logitech field, who not might be as technology illiterate as some of us, there's a couple things to point out. When you click on your name, it also would help if you would have the proper wording for what the account level is called now. Which is called settings. I did not know this until I logged into his account yesterday. So that's the first thing you guys need to know. Then if you're doing a merging account, after you change email, and confirm that you wanna do that, there is a hidden step. That I feel is missed. All the way down at the bottom, it will tell you that there's already another email address with with that account, it will ask you at the very bottom if you want to emerge the two. Then it will send the person an email to confirm the change. I feel like some of these things were missed when we were all helping Chuck. So we need to keep our years open a little more to changes. I will tell you, whenever I was making the change yesterday, I missed this about three times because every time I went to change his email, it did not alert me to the one dialogue that was being missed. So then I changed it to one of my own addresses, to see if groups I was just having an issue. And it wasn't. So I was eventually able to get it fixed properly.
