Can I remove a member with out the member knowing?

 

Hello friends...

Between my old Yahoo forum and then the moved here to Group IO, I have only had to remove two people in the last 12 or more years.? I moderate a? technical forum and folks are great. 99.9% of the time people are respectful and polite.? I am very pleased.

But now a troublemaker has showed up and I wish to remove that person.? Can I remove that person with out that person receiving email from my forum showing that the person has been removed?

To the best of my knowledge, a member does not receive a notification unless you send one out yourself. That they have been removed. Of course, it will become quite obvious, if they check your homepage/their email. And they noticed that they're not getting mail from your group.

If your group isn't Restricted, all they have to do is join again.? A better option might be to ban them.

Oh yeah, that's right. So you would have to disable that first, and then re-enable it after you remove them.

Re bad actors, have you tried moderating them?
 

We always let a member know if, because of their behavior, we're going to put them on moderation, remove them, or ban them. We've had to ban two subscribers, and we've put a few on temporary moderation, and a couple on permanent moderation. It's standard practice for us to give them specifics on why we've done it.

What do I have to disable first?

My group is restricted.? You have to apply, I OK you, then you are moderated until I can make sure you are not trying to span the email list with junk.

Moderation is? not just for Spammers/junk.? It is perfect for dealing with misbehaving members, so you can screen their posts and reject them if you find them inappropriate. If they continue their behavior then I would ban them form the group.

And remember notices, you will need to disable the leave notice if you have one active. To check to see what notices you have active, go to admin and two member notices.

The 'Goodbye' notice is sent when a member voluntarily leaves a group and the 'Removed Member' notice is sent when they are removed by a Moderator.? The notices are only sent if they are marked as Active.
