Reject redirect to subgroup

Glenn Glazer

We have a main group, it is moderated to be announcements and official communications only. We have a subgroup for discussion.

What I'd like to know is if there is a way to reject a message sent to the main group by sending to the subgroup.

Thanks,

Glenn

Re: Is there a way to keep a member's email from showing up on the member's list?

Doug,

We had sort of agreed on making the Members List visible to all,
rather than try to convince everyone to individually make their
profiles visible. But now I'm wondering what the drawbacks for doing
so is?
What Bruce said.

For what it is worth, I've been running a few Restricted membership groups where I've chosen to make the Members List visible to members, for pretty much the same reasons you cite, and have experienced no problems with this. But then, those groups are very well vetted in terms of membership: each member is someone I or a co-owner know personally. These are relatives or classmates and we have non-email contact info for them.

"Your mileage may vary", particularly if your group has a broader membership. You'll have to evaluate the risk that someone could join to collect and abuse other members' info (i.e., be a spammer, crook, or otherwise be a pest).

Re: Locked or Announcement-Only Group Behavior

Art,

IIUYC, this auto "Announcement group" rejection message is not the
same as the auto "Rejected Message" notice.
Correct.

If indeed they are separate and independent, is there any way to
append a custom explanation for the rejection?
As Bruce said, no. The reason has to do with the technical difference between the two.

The rejection for posting to an announcement-only group happens during the SMTP connection as the member's email service attempts to deliver the message to Groups.io (it is a "bounce" of the message). As such, the explanatory text Groups.io can provide is limited in length; making it impractical to include any custom explanation.

When a moderator rejects a pending message that happens long after the member's message was accepted by Groups.io (and placed in the group's Pending Message list). So the Rejected Notice sent to the member is an email message of its own and doesn't have a strict limit on its length.

Re: bouncing

Judy,

Since yahoo was taken over, I can¡¯t find the messages of the one group
I belong to there.
If you are referring to the October 2019 changes to Yahoo Groups, no, you can't. Messages are no longer stored at Yahoo Groups, you only see them if you receive them by email.

For more info see the section on the 2019 changes, here:

Re: Blank email to join address has stopped working #membership #subgroup

¿ªÔÆÌåÓý

While the main group is unrestricted but announcement only, the two subgroups *are* restricted do the pending notices should be triggered for these - What I have provided to people is the subscription addresses for the two sub groups.?

They are not being added without the pending process, literally nothing happens when they apply.?

Again, I tested it all at the beginning and it worked beautifully, it¡¯s just stopped all together now. Something in the process got broken, and it seems to be that the subgroups are simply not allowing members to apply for access.

From?/helpcenter/ownersmanual/1/managing-member-notices/pending-subscription-notice?:

"This notice can be sent automatically to anyone who applies for membership in a restricted group" [italics added]

Re: Blank email to join address has stopped working #membership #subgroup

¿ªÔÆÌåÓý

Hi Bruce,

Thanks for this - I understand members won¡¯t do through the pending process when I invite them, which is why I want them to apply. When when they are sending the email to apply, nothing happens.

It did when I tested it, but that has since stopped - hence my issue.

Brooke -- The Pending Subscription notice is sent to those who apply on their own to join your Restricted group. Sending a message to the +subscribe address is one way to apply.

This notifies them that their subscription is under review. Until you examine their application and approve them, that subscription remains in Pending status.

Now that whole subscription email process seems to have just stopped working... I have had folks in the coop tell me they followed my instructions, but got nothing back. I tested it on gmail addresses I have created for the purpose - where before it was perfect, now I get nothing...

I find if I invite or direct add folks, they miss the whole "pending" process to get them to update their account info, which I added a notice for so it was all happening automatically.??
The difference here is that those people did not apply...you asked them to join.

The Pending Subscription notice isn't?sent to anyone you Invite or Direct Add, simply because those people never land in Pending status. The premise here is that you have already vetted them and want them to join, otherwise you would never have sent them the invitation.

If you wish to acquire data about someone no matter how they get into the group, you'll have to find some other way to do it.

Bruce

Assuming they are actually subscribed, there are two options:
  • Post a message to the group posting address ([email protected]) using Apple Mail or some other email client.
  • Browse to the group using Safari or some other web browser and log in. Then tap the New Topic button.
I have multiple iPhone users and none of them have reported a problem.

Is an app available yet?

Re: No EMail Option.

Robert,

I make exceptions for them, since they run private practices.
You could suggest they try an alternative: set Email Delivery to Digest or Summary, or set Message Selection to Following Only.

Following Only would be most appropriate for members who want limit what they receive based on their personal selection of topics of interest.

Re: Limit number of rows in a database table #database

Andy,

I see two options.

1. Manually keep track of the size of the table and when it reaches your limit of rows, go into "Edit Table properties" and in "Permissions" > "Add Rows", change the setting to "Moderators and the Table Owner". This removes the the option for members to add records.

2. Put in a request to beta for adding a "Maximum rows" parameter to Database properties.

3. This is not really an option, but you could put in a note in the table description asking users not to exceed "n" rows.

I should clarify this.? It works if you're on the Members page.? If you're on another page, such as Pending Approval, it only searches that classification.

Member's page enhancements #Members page #members

¿ªÔÆÌåÓý

There are two things that I can see that would make the Member's page better and easier to use"

1. Allow for more than 20 members to be displayed on one page. Allow the user to select the number to be shown: 20, 40, 60. 80, or ALL

2. It appears that the search on the member's page only searches the current members list on the page displayed. The search should, if it doesn't already, search the full membership list.
