Just to be safe, I'd deactivate the Welcome notice.? According to the documentation, a Direct Add notice is *always* sent, either one you've created/activated or a default by the system -

Kyle, Typed out in plain text as they were in your message, they each seem to go to the respective group. Perhaps when creating your messages to the Yahoo Groups you created the message as formatted
