Delete Group Before Approval Causes Namespace Problem

I added a group called "Clear-Ridge-Water" and then in confusion deleted it before it was approved. ?Since then I have not been able to add it again, as it says name is in use. ?It of course does not show up in my group menu. ? ?Any ideas on how to "unfreeze" the name?

Re: How do I have completely my own footer?

Right, I did include the footer via cut and paste, but it doesn't show in this reader. ?It may be mail reader dependent. ?My constituent group will be mostly reading mail and not discussion groups, so it's hard to say how it will all be to them.

Thanks, John

Re: How do I have completely my own footer?

The part that's added by the site can't be removed, you can only add to it. There has been some discussion about it on the beta group, but I believe Mark has said this is the minimum.

BTW, you didn't include the example, but most of us have seen it.

Re: How do I have completely my own footer?

In case you are puzzled the list of links is not showing up here..... just in email....

How do I have completely my own footer?

I am setting up groups and everything is going smoothly with one exception. ?Whenever mail goes to a group there is a lengthy footer tacked onto the email which I want to eliminate, preferably substitute with my own footer. ??

This is what I get as an example, which is a long list of links. ?I've experimented with the Footer setting and it just added what to what is down here.

Ideas?

Re: links and mailto:

The link actually works from LibreOffice (where the link was created and copied from) and when the hypertext was copied to gmail. Mark did say it will be fixed in so that these spaces are changed.?

I have a lot of questions

Hello, I just joined today but have searched the group archives before. You all are very helpful. Thank You.

Here's my first question: if you want to have more than one group but want them to go to different emails do you need more than account in

For example, I've got about 5 groups on one email, I don't want another group on the same email so do I need a different account for it.

2nd question: how do I change addys in ? I know I can change addys in account but I mean different addys for different groups. An example would be how yahoo is and you can pick different addys but have one account. Any way to do that in

Third, why does it keep saying I'm bouncing when I'm not. I unbounced myself 10 or 11 times in 2 days, it's not a lot of groups it's mostly the same groups I just unbounced myself from 5 minutes ago. Could this be my fault- I messed up the other day and somehow lost all my groups but I had an alternate addy I use to post before this happened so I got my back but the groups I owned I was no longer owner so one of my co-owners made me owner again but she's sick and neither of my co owners do very much so it's a good thing I regained my? owners status.

Fourth question: I left out one letter of my addy so now I have no groups on that addy, I did and was receiving mail but due to? my own screw-up I lost all the groups. Is there any way to get them back or do I have to start all over again? It's not all bad, I guess because those groups show on my alternate but I would like to receive mail on my main account.

I've been using for many months now and love it. I don't know everything yet but it's so much better than yahoo.

Re: Can two Yahoo Groups be merged into one Groups.io group

I appreciate everyone's replies.? Based on those replies I intend to communicate the question to Mark (just a sanity check on my part) and then assuming he says he can do it...I'll order the move sometime soon.? Yes, I understand that I need to effectively communicate with the present membership so that we lose as few as possible.? I appreciate this GroupManagersForum.

It can be done because we did it with our homesteading group Prudent
Living in . We had two very similar groups on Yahoo and
thought it would be best to combine and move them.

Be aware that the files section in your new group will likely need to
be rearranged after the move. Ours was a mess. The group and messages
moved fine.

If you're serious about doing this, get started now as there is (or
was) a limit to how many groups Mark could move in one day because of
some changes at Yahoo. There was a waiting list the last I heard.

Also, unless you personally know everyone in your Yahoo group(s) and
it's a small one, even though you make an announcement, there will be
some who are surprised when it happens. We lost some members who
weren't paying attention.

Explain that they should check their spam folder to unmark (not delete
after reading) any messages from spam to mail so that they
don't automatically get unsubscribed. Many sites are now using various
email provider's spam mechanism to unsubscribe people as part of an
agreement to reduce spam.

Hotmail spam problem - same as aol...?

Hi folks -

I've just moved a large group in from Yahoo. I'd been going through the posts here and learned about the AOL & Spam problem, and did warn my members well in advance. However I just had it happen with someone with a Hotmail address? - the message was marked as spam and they were removed from the group.

Has/is anyone else having this problem with Hotmail? I'm presuming the gmail work-around is applicable again, but it's not very inviting to have someone kicked off automatically....

Help?
Thanks,

Ginny

Re: member got unsubbed

It never happened to me but it happened a lot to my AOL members. I use gmail and as far as I know it never happened to any of my members expect the aol ones. AOL users were getting unsubbed almost every day. They all had to rejoin. My co owner who uses AOL and had it happened to her (she said she didn't do anything, it just unsubscribed her) said it was an AOL glitch. I think AOL doesn't use the modern security standards most newer things do but that is just my opinion and I have no proof of that.

Because on a free group space for Photos, Files and attachments combined
is limited to 1 GB.

Actually, it's more a site/system error. I believe Mark is planning to have the site do this when needed. I ran into it in another case awhile back, but don't remember what it was. I did another test and using the %20 works, but using an underline saves a couple of keystrokes and doesn't look too bad. (I also tried putting the subject, with spaces, in quotes and that didn't work, like I was hoping it would.)

Bob,
In this case, the space is in the Subject that she wants pre-filled in an email, not the actual domain name, but has the same effect - invalid.

Re: links and mailto:

I just looked up (Google) ? ? ?spaces in url

and got the following :

no, you must encode a?space; it is correct to encode a?space?as + , but only in the query string; in the path you must use %20 .?URLs?are defined in RFC 3986, though other RFCs are relevant as well but RFC 1738 is obsolete. They may not have?spaces?in them, along with many other characters.Jan 31, 2009

[The "path" is the part that contains the domain name and any pre or sub info, e.g.

"www.domainname.com" ? is the Path. ?with a space in it it must be entered as "www.domain%20name.com" , not "www.domain name.com"

Re: links and mailto:

Hi Duane,

Mark got back about the link. ?Here is what he said:

Ok, I understand what's happening. Your mailto link has spaces in it, which makes the URL technically invalid. We should be smart enough and replace those spaces with %20, but we're not doing that right now. Until I fix that, to get your mailto links working, replace each space with %20

So it looks like a bit of user error. ?I am working from a new mac "friendly" program and copied a link address to make the mail to link. ?Clearly it did not add the %20 for the spaces when it copied. ?Will PC and Mac ever get along? ???\_(¥Ä)_/?

Re: Can two Yahoo Groups be merged into one Groups.io group

You'd need to ask Mark to be sure, but I suspect he could do it. Because of the possible confusion and/or the Photo duplicates, I think I'd be more apt to keep them separate though.

Can two Yahoo Groups be merged into one Groups.io group

Good morning...

I am one of the owners of two Yahoo Groups...we are photographers and we exchange Black and White Prints (group 1) and Color Prints (group 2) on a monthly basis.? The Black and White Group has existed since 2002.? There are conversations and as importantly photo albums.? The Color Group was founded in 2008 and also has conversations and photo albums.

I have recently created two groups at Groups.io and we are in the process of preparing to port the two groups to when the logic question is asked...why not just put everything into one group?? No subgroups.? Simply both groups come into one group. ?

The question is simple...can the team do this?? Two Yahoo Groups into one Groups.io group?

As I have thought through the consequences of:
  • Merging conversations from two groups into one...I think it will be OK.? There may be some confusion but I don't know that it will matter much (as it's all water under the bridge).
  • Merging photo albums may also be confusing, particularly if they have the same names...but I am willing to take the time to sort through the photos and albums to get things sorted if there are problems.
  • The Yahoo Groups will be left intact for at least a couple of years...so we will have an example of how things were.

I did look in the Wiki and do not see this addressed.? Thank you in advance.

Re: links and mailto:

Thanks Duane! ?I knew this group would know what to do . ?Will send email to support. ?

Cheers!

Re: links and mailto:

I finally had some time to do some testing on this and couldn't get it to work either, even trying to enter the code directly. I suspect something got tweaked during a change that causes it to fail. It looks like you need to send it to [email protected] for resolution.

Duane

links and mailto:

Hi all,

Has the ability to create ?mailto link in the wiki been removed? ?

I can't get it to work.?

The link is asking members to email the owners of a sub group to request a file upload:

mailto:[email protected]?subject=Non-IR Equine Case History Upload Request

When I make the link and save the page the link reverts back to plain text. Other previously posted mailto links still work. ?

?\_(¥Ä)_/? It's a mystery!
