Re: Closing chats - moderators? #Discussion

Thanks Duane - that was my thought as well so at least I know I'm not off the rails on that.
But - I'm helping a group transition and we're "in training". I've got one gal doing great learning to be a moderator, but for the love of us she can open but not close a chat. The gray management box that should open in the chat title list just isn't there. We've put her into two different subgroups and it's the same thing. If I make her an owner, then she gets the options box.

I've gone back to both her settings and the group settings to double check everything, and that's when I stumbled (in group settings) that the control says "who can START new chats - doesn't say anything about "managing" them. As strange as it may seem, it would appear that it's on purpose and only an owner can close or delete, given that statement.

Re: Problem with Incredimail formatting (was: html)

That looks fine, but although the plain text part is fine I have no
scrollbar on the HTML part (both in Pegasus Mail and when opened in my
browser Palemoon) so I cannot see all the post.

I notice looking at the source that it has gone through HTML Tidy,
which presumably Mark uses to tidy up problem HTML code. Maybe that has
corrected something with unintended consequences.

I appreciate some of you do use Incredimail but I remember years ago
when it first came out that it was jokingly called 'incredibly bad
mail'. You can hardly blame these issues on Groups.io which is only
trying to sort out what it has been sent. You must address this with
Incredimail.

Members not receiving invitations #issue

I have a couple of people who say they are not receiving their group invitations.? They are from different providers, so it's not (say) a Hotmail issue or such.? ? ?

I'm working with the users to see if it might be in a spam folder or some other way misfiled - but thought I would ask the group if others have had instances of invitees saying they are not getting invitations.

thanks

I seem to remember seeing problems reported with Incredimail back in the
1990s, presumably due to dubious HTML coding and incompaitbility with mail
readers.

It seems nothing's changed. I didn't know people still used it.

Re: Missing messages

¿ªÔÆÌåÓý

One reason groups.io is flagged as spam more often than Yahoo! is Yahoo! is better known. Anti-spam tools use rules of thumb for picking out spam. One common rule is to flag mail from unfamiliar domains. Domains that don¡¯t have the older com-net-org-gov-mil-edu suffixes often get extra scrutiny. Since groups.io is less familiar, it gets flagged as spam more often. This growing pain may get better over time.

Closing chats - moderators? #Discussion

Hi everyone,
I just need some clarification on managing chats, please? Am I reading and seeing things correctly that, if the group settings allow moderators to start chats, a moderator can start but not close a chat?
Or am I missing something (entirely possible)?
Thanks much,
Ginny

That may be true, but it doesn't seem to fit with the logic of the evidence. Wouldn't those requirements apply to the receiving email service, regardless of the email list service used?

Unless of course Anita's referring to viewing the messages in the group's archives, but that wasn't my impression.

Re: reply options

Ann,

Yes, she's using an email program called The Bat. Actually, I use the
same program and I am not having that problem. And we both are using
Gmail accounts for our emails.
I've never used The Bat, so all I can think of to suggest is to review the program's options to see if any of them stand out to you as suspicious - settings or descriptions which imply some control over how replies are handled.

For example, this setting may be relevant:
"When replying in a mailing list, the "Reply-to" header contains this
mailing list address, not the original sender¡¯s address. The Bat! uses
original sender¡¯s name and mailing list address in the "To" header when
you reply in the mailing list. You can change this setting by enabling
the "Do not use FROM name for REPLY-TO address" option."

Or maybe check to see if you're using the same version. If it is inconvenient to ask her, the headers of messages sent by The Bat may include this field:

X-Mailer: The Bat! (v3.99.3) Home

If you view source on her messages in your group you may find a similar marker, and it might reveal the version number. That field is optional, so her messages may not have it.

Re: Problem with Incredimail formatting (was: html)

Anita,

Incredimail has a feature where we can tell if someone reads a message
but I have that turned off. That is not important to me.
Just as well. These days most email interfaces defend against such beacons anyway.

Mike no reason to report this to incredimail since it worked fine in
yahoo. It seems to be a iogroup problem to me.
In any compatibility problem there's usually some amount of finger-pointing. You say it is a Groups.io problem because the messages pass through Yahoo Groups ok. Groups.io says it is an Incredimail problem because messages from other email service pass through ok. Standoff.

Undoubtedly it is a bit of both. My guess is that some Incredimail messages (those with borders) do something in the HTML which doesn't work with the way Groups.io adds its footer to the messages.

You're interest in selecting "Traditional" mode suggests something of the sort - Yahoo Groups add footers differently in "Traditional" versus "Full Featured" subscriptions, and if one works but not the other at Yahoo Groups then that would seem to point to that being the source of the problem.

If that's the case, then maybe it is a second finger pointing at Incredimail's HTML code.

Shal

Re: Problem with Incredimail formatting (was: html)

Anita,

If I go to my yahoo account
I'm uncertain what you mean here. Do you mean sending from Yahoo Mail, receiving at Yahoo Mail, or something else?

or the messages here there is not a problem I believe.
Again I'm uncertain. Do you mean "here" on Groups.io, reading the messages in your group's Messages archive?

Shal
