Rejected members?

? ? I have questions of a pending member before I can accept her: ?If I reject, can she rejoin with corrected info? ?Or, is it better to wait for the answers to my questions and then accept or reject.

Re: Wiki

Sharon,

There is a button that drops down a menu of pages but we would have
list of 100+ pages in a list with no grouping.
Groups.io's wiki is lacking in organizational features.

The default wiki home page is an index of the pages, essentially duplicating what's in the Pages menu. But you can, as I did for GMF, replace that index page with a custom home page that creates the kind of organization you want to have. Not very convenient to maintain though, as it is all built with hand-crafted text, formatting, and links.

Are there instructions anywhere?
There's our beginnings of a guide in GMF's wiki. Thanks to JMichaelTX for getting it started. Anyone got the gumption to help fill in more details?
/g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/Wiki-Guide-for-Users-and-Editors

The formatting toolbar for Wiki pages is very similar to the message formatting toolbar, but not exactly the same. One interesting difference is that in wiki the Enter key is a paragraph break, Shift+Enter a line break. Message formatting is the opposite.

Re: Photo Album Ownership

Don,

I'm not sure what Mark could do about this. Do you?
I'm not sure either.

But I think his copy mechanism normally obtains the author information for each item. In the case of photos that would identify the member who uploaded them. If he still has that information it is possible he could retroactively apply it to the photos that were copied.

Or maybe he could re-run the Photos copy, assuming he found and fixed whatever problem caused them not to have their original owner info copied into your Groups.io group.

How Many Databases Can Be Created in IO Groups?
As far as I know there is no limit.

How Many Databases Can Be Created in IO Groups? I have many Yahoo groups that hold 10 databases each. How many Databases can I have IO Techs move to Groups.IO?

Thanks

Shal,

From what I can tell, there is nothing wrong with the messages. I'm not sure what Mark could do about this. Do you?

Wiki

We have a Google Sites wiki that is up to the limit in storage. It is a fabulous resource and all our members have taken to it very easily. But it is at 99% of memory and there is no way to get more memory (that i can find).

I¡¯m looking at the Wiki on groups.io but it seems very simple. It doesn¡¯t make a menu on the left side as the wiki¡¯s I know have, for example.

There is a button that drops down a menu of pages but we would have list of 100+ pages in a list with no grouping.

Is that right? Are there instructions anywhere? Clicking on ? didn¡¯t bring up much.

Is it true that only the images in the wiki count toward the storage limit?

Don,

Yes, the albums were transferred by the agent. ... I told mark what to
transfer, and those items were the Membership List, Photo Albums, and
Archived Posts.
Hmm. Sounds like an anomaly to me.

Did the messages get proper attribution, or did they come out as from you as well?

It appears what I will have to do is let the owner of the album
download all their pictures, then I would delete the album, letting
the member make a new album to upload their pictures too.
Before starting that effort I'd contact [email protected] and see what they have to say about it. Perhaps they can go in and make the corrections without needing to re-upload. At the very least Mark will want to investigate why this happened and make sure it isn't happening to others.

At present, there's no way to change that other than having the original person create an album and upload them.? I don't see anything about this on the TODO list, so you might suggest it on

Re: Photo Album Ownership

Shal,

Yes, the albums were transferred by the agent. I did not transfer anything, it was all done by the agent. I told mark what to transfer, and those items were the Membership List, Photo Albums, and Archived Posts. I took care of the Databases, Files, and Links, before the transfer. It appears what I will have to do is let the owner of the album download all their pictures, then I would delete the album, letting the member make a new album to upload their pictures too.

Where these photos copied in by the transfer agent? And if so, did you do the transfer in two steps (content before members)?

In my groups the transfer agent got this right, as expected. So I'm uncertain what happened in your case.

Such a feature, if it existed, might be problematic. But maybe if it were limited to a moderator re-assigning ownership to a member (or other
mod/owner) that would be a solution.

Re: Individual vs Digest messages - links at bottom of emails differ

I said:
There does appear at the very top of the Digest, the link to Change Subscription.? And at the very bottom, a link to Unsubscribe.?

Shal replied:
The group's email address appears in the Digest header and the footer, and it is a link - to the group's home page. That leaves:
Contact Group Owner
Terms Of Service
---------

Thanks, Shal.? I do see the group's email address in the header and footer, but I think it is unclear that it is separate link from the links to Change Subscription or Unsubscribe.? I was afraid to try the one at the bottom, at the risk of unsubscribing myself.? Now I can tell my members they can click on either address link.

I'll make the suggestion in Beta also.? Thanks.

Re: Photo Album Ownership

Don,

We have a lot of Photo Albums in our group, and these were set up by
members when we were on YG. I've noticed going through many of the
albums, and looking at some of the pictures in those albums, at the
bottom of the picture it displays my name (Owner/Moderator) instead of
the person that really put those pictures in the album to begin with.

How can I get the rightful ownership of those albums and pictures back
to their owners?

On the Settings page, click on Member Notices.? Then click on a Rejected Message type, if you have any.? If not, click +New Notice at the bottom of the list and create one.? On the notice, you can specify the Subject of the email that is sent, along with any content that should be included.? If you want to use it by default, you need to click the Active box before saving.? (The Name box is for your use so you can tell which is which when you have more than one of the same type notice.)

Re: A few questions please

Mindy,

1) How can you change the subject line of a rejected post? (so it
doesn't say "Your message was rejected" but something more gentle).
I wish you could. I could have sworn I'd requested it in beta, but maybe I've just thought of it so many times.

What I do as a work-around is use Send Message instead, and if appropriate just Delete the pending message.

The disadvantage is that it doesn't act as a Reply (that's a suggestion I've been intending to post in beta) so if you want to quote the member's post you have to copy it first, then click Send Message, paste it in the body, and mark it as a quote. A bit of a pain.

3) The daily digest on io is very short, I am getting several a day.
It says "up to 12 messages" but these have fewer messages in each (on
average 7).
Are you looking at the list at the top of the digest? That is a list of topic headings. If a topic has a number in parenthesis on it then it contains more than one message. Add those up, including the implicit (1) for topics with a single message.

If that doesn't equal 12, and if this isn't the last Digest you received that day for that group, then that would seem to be a bug to report to support.

Is there a way to set how many new messages it has?
No.

5) When a message is received, it shows as sent to the group, as well
as CC'ed to the group.
Odd, I'm not seeing that in my email client (Thunderbird) nor in Gmail's web interface. I'm not sure what's going on there.

A few questions please

Group Moderator

Hi, we are looking at switching over very soon, and the advice on this group is amazing! A few questions, please:
?
1) How can you change the subject line of a rejected post? (so it doesn't say "Your message was rejected" but something more gentle).?
?
2) Is there a way to only include the footer on posts, and not on emails sent to a member from the pending page?
?
3) The daily digest on io is very short, I am getting several a day. It says "up to 12 messages" but these have fewer messages in each (on average 7). Is there a way to set how many new messages it has??
?
4) The daily summary is better in that regard (just one email per day) but not so useful for my members, since you need to click on each message to see it. I fear it will just get skipped. Has there been any talk about making it scrollable like on YG currently?
?
5) When a message is received, it shows as sent to the group, as well as CC'ed to the group. I only get one copy though. Does this always happen? Is there a setting to change? Does it matter?
?
(I don't know if any of these things are better addressed in the Beta group)
?
And LOL - pretty much all the talk on the GMF of YG is about what's going wrong...
?
Thank you! Mindy
