They should be named "E-mail to group" (or: Compose to group) and "E-mail to sender", but when I posted about this on the beta mailing list, I was told that if you send a new message to someone who previously sent a message to you, and you make the subject line the same, then it is considered a "reply", and so these links will probably not be renamed. Most of the group members will just click Reply in their mail app out of habit - after all everything else works that way...FWIW, I find that what happens when you press the Reply button in a mail program can depend on the mailing list -- sometimes Reply All does one thing, sometimes it does something else. However, I agree with you that it would be nice if Groups.io mails were formatted in such a way that users have control over whether their reply goes to the group or the sender. Samuel |

Can a group be unrestricted membership and also unmoderated messages?
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýBrian,Is it possible to set up a group where a subscribe request is just automatically processed and the member is immediately accepted and not moderated? Yes.? Beta and GMF both operate this way. One can tell by looking at a group's Home page, in the group settings: I'm moderating groups all of which require approval I can't answer:? If you have access to the group's Settings page, you'll find the Restricted Membership checkbox in the Spam Control section. Where do [email protected] emails go
Foon,
I'd like some help with finding out where theThey are used by the system to either subscribe the email address to the group, or if the group has Restricted Membership to request approval of a pending subscription. The content of the message does not go anywhere. I've had a look in the settings and I can't find anything on this?As Duane mentioned, you can opt to receive a notification when someone uses the +subscribe email address or uses the Join/Request button on the group's home page. That checkbox is in the list of Notifications in each owner/moderator's Subscription page. Re: Reply vs Reply All
Frances, thank you for the links. I do have the footer with the options for "Reply to Sender" etc turned on. However, when that link is clicked, it opens in my desktop mail app and strips out the message I'm replying to which means I have to do a copy/paste to have the original message contained in my reply. That's a non-starter for our members. Using View/Reply Online achieves the goal but most of the group members will just click Reply in their mail app out of habit - after all everything else works that way - so why does email received via Groups.io require a special technique?
Samuel, this is not about replying from within either the Groups.io or the Yahoo web interfaces but rather from a variety of members' personal email applications. When receiving emails from our old Yahoo group, clicking Reply in a number of email apps sent a message only to the person who originated the message. Now, with messages sent via Groups.io, clicking Reply sends one copy to the originator and one to the group; Reply All sends two copies to the group. Again, this is happening for people running a variety of mail apps on their computers and phones. |

Re: Help: Earthlink now bouncing emails sent to *me* from Groups.io groups I own
I think this is happening because Earthlink had two major outages earlier this week on both the East and West Coasts. Both Groups.io and Meetup apparently have very short tolerances for SMTP retries before sending out the rather threatening edict, "You must take action to restore your account, or we will unsubscribe you from all of the groups you are a member of." I only got that message today, several days after the Earthlink outages occurred so at first I didn't put two and two together. I have been receiving messages from my Groups.io groups (I'm an owner of one) since Earthlink's service was restored so it was out of context when I eventually received this message from Groups.io today.

I agree with Bruce that this is likely a broader issue, and it will take either a lot of Earthlink users sending such messages, or perhaps Mark's intervention, for Earthlink to get wise to the fact that Groups.io should be whitelisted as a legit email service. Re: Help: Earthlink now bouncing emails sent to *me* from Groups.io groups I own
This is now also happening to all three of the subscribers on my small (and new to groups.io) list who have earthlink.net email addresses.?
Is there something I can tell them to do to fix it on their end short of switching to gmail.com? thanks, Gabi |

Help: Earthlink now bouncing emails sent to *me* from Groups.io groups I own
Folks: As of two days ago (Wed 2/27/19), I am no longer getting emails from my groups that are supposed to send me each email. Apparently, Earthlink is now bouncing emails sent to me, from the Groups for which I'm an admin. |

Confirmation email
Can I ask for clarification of one aspect of the confirmation email sent when
someone applies to join a group? If they apply to join a restricted group by clicking the button on the group's web page, while logged into their account, should they then receive a confirmation email? I ask because of a case where no such email was received, and no, it did not go into a spam folder. The group in question shows their membership as awaiting approval. I am not a moderator of the group in question so I can't look at the admin pages. We recently transferred our group from Yahoo to Groups.io. Our group's Reply To option is set to "Group and Sender" thinking that would work the same as it did in Yahoo Groups, where clicking Reply sends a response only to the Sender and Reply All goes to both the sender and the group.Do you mean clicking Reply in Yahoogroup's web interface, or do you mean clicking Reply in the e-mail program? == FWIW: I did some testing with a Yahoogroup that I have, and I was unable to get Yahoogroups to offer me a Reply All option when replying to a message. What settings do you have in Yahoogroups that result in there being a Reply All option? Is that Reply All option in the Yahoogroups web interface or in e-mail programs? It appears that the options in the dropdown list under Reply To in the group settings apply only to the web interface, and doesn't have any effect on messages being sent via e-mail. I wonder, can anyone here please confirm that that is so? The way it works now in Groups.io is that Reply goes to both the Sender as well as the entire Group, and Reply All goes to both the Sender as well as the entire Group /twice/.How do you get a Reply All button in Groups.io's web interface? I fiddled with my group's settings and could not achieve it. Or does it only appear for messages that were sent to the group after the setting was changed? Samuel |
