You have a total of 1 GB of storage for a Basic group.?

To see what counts against your storage, go to:?/static/pricing#what-is-counted-towards-the-storage-limits-for-my-group

For tricks and tips on managing your allocation, see the GMF wiki entry at?/g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/Managing-Attachments%2C-Files-and-Photos

Hope this helps,
Bruce?

Re: Downloading the membership list

Bill,

If you paste itnto Excel, it cannot know that it was a csv file to begin with and doesn't do it's thing on the info.

If you save it as a csv file and then use Explorer to open the file with Excel, all should go as expected automagically.

On the other hand, going back to what you already have pasted into Excel, you can force the Excel parsing function.

Select all of the rows and do the following:
Data tab,? Text to Columns, Delimited, Next, Check "Comma", Finish

Re: Downloading the membership list

I can get to the stage where I have generated the CSV file and have the CSV file pasted into a blank worksheet in Excel, but Excel is not recognizing the comma to put each value in a separate cell.? With several hundred members, surely it isn't necessary to manually separate each one.? I am trying to get a membership list that I can sort by name of individual (last name would be nice) rather than alphabetically by email address.

I do not know if this problem is due to having some setting wrong in groups.io, or my inexperience with Excel, or a combination thereof.

I am generating the CSV file from the member tab under the administrative menu.? Should I be generating the membership list (by owner or moderator) from the main group directory?

Thanks,
Bill

If the group member happens to be using a mail classifier such as PopFile, or any of a number of other utilities in that vein, that alter the Subject to indicate classification this will occur.? I've had to tell several members on a couple of groups how to change their classifier software/filtering assignment software to NOT use the subject line, as it breaks topic threading in Groups.io (and lots of other places, too).? Virtually all of them are able to put information into the message header, not visible to the world at large and that does not change the Subject, to indicate classification.

I don't see this happen very often these days, but every once in a while . . .? ?

And, if you believe you received it but may have emptied your Spam and/or Trash folders before you responded.? You can always log in to the Groups.io web interface and approve someone under the Admin, Pending function.

If you happen to be dealing with a large number of pending members that's often easier since you can check a series of checkboxes (the members pending) and approve all of them with a single click of a button.

Re: File Upload Privileges

What Shal said gives everyone permission to upload files, if that's what you are wanting.

If you only want certain people to upload files, you can have it set where moderators only can upload files and then make those few people moderators, but don't check any of the moderator permissions for them. Then they can upload files but not do any of the other things.
You can also put them as moderator temporarily, then change it back if you don't want them uploading later.

(If you want ALL members to be able to upload, this is irrelevant.)
[If I didn't explain it well, Shal, please straighten it out for me.]

Re: Merge messages to account #howto

It would handy to have a more comprehensive solution that could address all orphaned group content, not just the messages. How to accomplish any of this without the potential for abuse (especially in light of GDPR and a litany of other 'net content-ownership/privacy regulations) is unclear to me.

Marcia,

? ?I created a poll yesterday.? HOW DO I FIND IT??

Go to the Messages page in your group then at the top of the Topics list, use the drop-menu to select Polls:

          the Polls list
In Groups.io polls are just email messages with a special section for the voting.

Re: how to approove peoplein windows ten with thunder bird

Ana,

... how do you approve people in windows ten with thunder bird?
Watch for a notice telling you that there is a pending member waiting to be approved. The notice will be like this:

From: "groupemail Notification" <[email protected]>
Subject: Subscription Approval Needed - user applied to groupemail

Except it will have your group's email address instead of "groupemail" and the applicant's email address instead of "user".

When you receive that message simply reply to it to approve the applicant. Or, use the link in the notice to view and optionally approve the Pending member via the web.

Note: the above works regardless of what operating system or email interface you may be using.

If you don't see a "Subscription Approval Needed" notice when you were expecting one, check the following:

1) Your email Spam folder

2) Ask the person to verify that they confirmed their request to join your group. If they used the email +subscribe command Groups.io will send them a confirmation request email. They must reply to that before you will be notified of their pending membership.

3) Go to your group on the web and open your Subscription page. Scroll down near the bottom of the page and look at the Notifications section. Make sure the box in front of "Email when there are members needing approval." is checked. Likewise for any other notifications you wish to receive. Then click the blue Save button at the bottom.

4) Go to your group on the web and open the Settings page (it will be in the Admin drop-down group of pages). Scroll down to the Spam Control section. Applicants only need approval if the box in front of "Restricted Membership" is checked.

Re: ADV in Subject Line

Spyder,

I've searched and searched for what "ADV" means in the subject line in
some posts in my group.
It doesn't have any functional meaning as far as Groups.io is concerned.

Maybe the member is trying to signal that their message contains an advertisement?

Or maybe some member's email service is adding that because their algorithms think the group message is an advertisement (similar to the SPAM tag I've seen some email interfaces use), and that gets carried back to the group in the member's reply.

Re: File Upload Privileges

Dick,

How do I give members permission to upload files ?
On your group's Settings page, near the bottom, in the Features section, find the Files, Permissions control. Set that to "Subscribers can view and Upload".

Don't forget the blue Update Group button at the very bottom of the page.

Re: stop the posts!!

With a yahoo group I previously managed, we had good success by fully moderating (as discussed here) and by publishing some "rules" that including a warning/expulsion system. ?Only for serious stuff like profanity, ad hominem attacks or whatever, such posts would never get through since we moderated but, on a first occurrence, a mod would message the offender privately with a link to the rules and indicate a warning (strike 1). Upon a second or third repetition of the same bad offense, we'd expel/remove the member. The benefit with this is transparency and predictability.
