On the web UI go to Topics view. Identify the thread / topic you want to freeze - or more correctly Lock - and find the arrow in the grey box just to the right of the date.

Click on the arrow, and then click on Lock Topic.

Job done.

Each member also has a separate setting for the Calendar, in addition to the one previously mentioned for their account.? They can change it by choosing it at the bottom of the Calendar page.? It's automatically saved as soon as it's changed.

In your instructions you should let them know that even if they've never visited the Groups.io web pages before they already have a Groups.io account - it was set up automatically when they joined your group. This means that when visiting the site for the first time they should use the Log In link, not the Sign Up link.

The Log In link will bring them to a page that asks for their email address and password, but just below the Password box is a Forgot your password, or don't have one yet? link which they can use to have Groups.io send them a login by email message.

They should be careful to enter the same email address they used for their subscription to your group. The footer of each group message they've received shows that address next to the Unsubscribe link.

Yes... and No.

There is an Owner / Moderator setting in Admin > Settings > Default Sub Settings called Timezone but it only applies to new members, i.e. those who join after the sub setting is "set". If this sub setting is changed then the blue Update Group tab at the bottom of the page must be clicked.

Existing members have to make any necessary changes for themselves, and it applies to all of their groups in one go. Members who wish to change their time zone setting must go to their Account, accessed by clicking on their name in the top right hand corner of any group web page. Clicking on that gives 2 options; Account and Log Out. Clicking on Account takes the Subscriber (member) to a page where the default is the Log In tab on the left. Ignore that and click on Preferences. The Time Zone preference is the first on the list of Web Site Preferences.

Any changes have to be confirmed by clicking on the blue Update Preferences tab at the bottom of the page; omit that and the change will not take effect.

Re: Setting time zone for calendar for all members of group

Karen,

Why are some members seeing a different time zone?

Each member has his/her own Timezone setting.

It is found on the Preferences page of his/her Account, which can be accessed through the Account item in the drop-menu under his/her name in the upper right corner.

Is there a way to set the calendar events so all members see the same time zone?

Not exactly.

But there is a way to set an initial Timezone for newcomers. This is in the Default Sub Settings tab of your group's Settings page. It applies to any email address which has not been used at Groups.io before. That is, someone not just new to your group, but new to Groups.io overall.

Setting time zone for calendar for all members of group

Good morning,

In one of the groups I manage we use the calendar for auto reminders. One of the members sent a message and stated:? "The calendar in groups.io needs to be re-set for Eastern Standard Time ¨C it¡¯s currently showing Los Angeles time."

I checked the calendar (through the group website) and the message sent to me, and the time zone is showing as -400 eastern time us and Canada.
Why are some members seeing a different time zone?

Is there a way to set the calendar events so all members see the same time zone?

Thank you,?

Karen

Re: Is there a setting that only moderators can send pictures/attachments and not members?

I would like to be able to post pictures/attachments but do not want my
members posting attachments.? Is there a setting for this?
Sadly, there is no such setting at the moment.
I asked for it in Beta a while ago (by the way, you supported my request), but apparently noone else is interested in this feature, so there is little chance it will be implemented.

As I wrote back then:
"At the moment, I have set my group to "moderate attachments", but this is a bit of a nuisance because I have to approve my own attachments."

Re: Reply to sender option

Mick,

Members report that the option is not available when they receive the
Full Digest. Is that correct?
No.

The link is available in a row of links below each message in the digest. See here for an example:
/g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/Footers#Formatted2C-aka-Full-Featured2C-Digest-of-Messages

Those links are not in the Plain Text digest. Perhaps that is what they meant?

Re: Chat dialogue mostly missing

The problem seems to be solved. The chat has recently been closed by a participating member and this seems to have allowed the postings prior to 4.55pm to be viewed. However some of the times are shown as "Invalid date".

Is it usual for a complete chat not to be visible until it is closed?

Re: Group member does not have access to databases #database

Paul,

She has access to all other non-moderator/owner features of the group.

Does that include New Topic, Files or Photos?
If not, she might not be logged into the site, or might be logged in using an email address that isn't in your group's Members list. Hover or click her Display Name in the upper right to see the logged in email address.

Or, if you recently changed the Database Permissions setting she may need to refresh the browser page to get the icon to appear. Try F5 and Ctrl+F5 (in most browsers).

I have checked her profile and there is nothing restrictive about her membership.

There aren't any per-member access controls to the Database or other features (Files, Photos).

Group member does not have access to databases #database

We have at least one member who does not have access to the databases.? The database icon is not visible in the list on the left hand side of her group web page.? All but one database are set for viewing and modifying by members.? She has access to all other non-moderator/owner features of the group.? I have checked her profile and there is nothing restrictive about her membership.? I don't know if any other members are having this issue (The member in question is my wife whose account I use for feedback on issues like this.).

Does anybody have any suggestions?

However, if this really is a case of using an email gateway to a feature phone's SMS messaging then I can't imagine she's in for a satisfactory experience.
I think Shal's remark is highly relevant, because the not small question of Message Footers has not been included in the discussion.

I checked a short mesage I posted elsewhere and it contained 203 characters. OK; I accept the group in question here might be able to work with messages that are around 140 characters, but...the Footer. The Footer on the email version of the message referred to above was 573 characters long, falling to 390 if the "group added" section was removed. The Footer is a system notification and is not editable by Owners and Moderators, so even a very short message such as Yes! (4 characters) is going to have nearly 400 more characters bolted on by Groups.io.

So even if the Confirmation Request Message was somehow edited down to sit within the character limit enforced on the member in question the problem of the Footer exceeding the character limit will remain. Now in practice this might not matter all that much but at the same time it just might.

Groups.io is not designed to function in an environment where there is a severe limitation on the available number of characters.

Did you recently delete some photos from this folder, and that's when the problem occurred?

If so, your browser may be caching the image thumbnail page. Try a hard refresh (Ctrl-F5) and see if that fixes it.

If that doesn't help, your problem is beyond my pay grade.
