Re: Can not get transfer request to show up in the "In Process" list

Sorry, looks like I am making assumptions on all of the emails in the subject and I'm sure you guys are answering millions of questions with out reading the entire thread on the subject.
I know about the change mark did on the box and that you have to click on the box to see if there is anything there. The problem is I can not get anything in that box, it is always empty, i.e the transfer is not started.
I have a group and have paid the 1 year subscription. Group name is Leopardcatamaranowners. I have done the detailed instructions though number 10, I then go to yahoo group and send the invite to [email protected] but I never get any response from groups, email or that box updating. The instructions say to send the invite again, I did that 30 minutes after the first and still no update (from the end of instruction 11). I then asked above in this thread because that second one did not work and I was then told that maybe yahoo was delayed, and wait longer. After a few hours it still has not started (groups.io has not responded to the yahoo invite with either an email or the box showing it was received). I then tested Yahoogroups by inviting myself in 2 other domains / email accounts and I got the invite within 2 minutes. So I am asking is there any way to tell if there is a queue on the groups.io responding / acknowledging the invite from the yahoo group, do I send additional invites like step 11 says or what should I do to get groups.io to accept the invites from my yahoo group? There is something wrong here, groups.io is not responding to the invites from yahoo is that broken, or maybe groups.io does not know what to do with the invite?
Is there anyway to see is the "setup a new transfer" worked, I'm thinking that did not work. Yes I know to enter the yahoo group without the domain, yes I used the pullwdown on the box to select the group I wanted to transfer it to, yes that groups has had the 1 year paid subscription.

Re: Group Guidelines on a schedule #membernotices

Oh, nice!

Does it get sent out immediately when I make it? Or when does the "monthly" sending begin?

Thanks,
Su

Re: You have 1 transfer in process or completed

Larry,

When returning to the page (step 6) and selecting the Yahoo group from the drop down and then clicking on it, nothing happens, but the message under the drop says the transfer is in process.

Try a different browser, or a page refresh (Ctrl+F5) maybe. Mark does his development on Chrome, so that might be a good one to try.

When trying another browser make sure you're logged in using the same email address as the original browser (that page is specific to your account). No need to log out on the original browser, it is ok to be logged in from two devices/browsers at once.

I seem to recall that there have been problems with some particular browsers when trying to click on certain things which should be active. That might have been older versions of Opera, or some other browser I've never used.

Do I just start over or am I being impatient? See the image below.

I wouldn't start over.

If a different browser doesn't work for you your best bet might be a report to [email protected], carefully explaining what steps you've tried.

Shal

If you create Group Guidelines, there will be a link on the left menu, as on this group, to get to them, so you won't need them in the Wiki.

Group Guidelines on a schedule #membernotices

Hi,

I found where I can create a Group Guidelines member notice and set it to be sent monthly. I also have the same notice in our group's Wiki. Is it possible to have it take the text from the Wiki, or do I have to update the notice every time I update the guidelines in the Wiki?

Doesn't happen often, but just wondering.

Thanks,
Su

Re: Easy Transfer cost #transfer

Anyone unhappy with the new pricing can get a refund and go away if the transfer has not taken place.
Mark mentioned about refund to anyone not happy.

Seems a bit sketchy If it was originally $100. My thoughts are they should stick to that and not come up with an excuse to change it midstream.?

Who¡¯s to say we give $200 then a week later they want $300 etc. ?

I/we need to know the terms of the services they are offering, with all the details listed. I understand why we are moving away from Yahoo but this is an expense to ISC and many are not members. ?

I was looking at a way to keep more info on our group members - Ways to maintain/organize members' registration info in our homeschool support group. Info like address, children, parish. It is a private group.

Digging through the Groups.io features, it looks building a Database table might be an option. I could just add columns for each of the data items we collect. Then remind members to update info periodically.

Re: Easy Transfer cost #transfer

Actually, they used to transfer groups for free.? I understand the need to charge up front for the huge influx of groups now that Yahoo is shutting down.? While the $110 cost seemed a bit high, I was willing to contribute the cost for one of the groups I am a member of in order to assure the groups survival.? But now a doubling of that fee just seems like profiteering.? If you look at the costs of hosting groups like these it is very, very minimal.? 10 GB of storage costs next to nothing (flash storage is around $0.10 per GB and rotating media is even less).? Shared costs on a server are similarly low for the sort of tasks required to run groups like this.?

I suppose the cost is in the conversion.? That might take a bit of human time while most of it is automated.? More likely the real cost is just having to ramp up there systems and the personnel time to make that happen.? Still, $220 per account????

It just doesn't feel good to use groups.io anymore.

[Mod note:? Actual cost for Premium Yearly is $220 per primary group, not per account.]

Correct...groups that choose not to be added to the groups.io directory are not searchable using the engine.

I tried some variations and they didn't work, but maybe not for the same reason.? Are underscores not allowed?? Even so I tried both Hipresurfacingsite and hipresurfacing.?
Underscores are not allowed, but hyphens are. It has something to do with the subdomain addressing used for subgroups.

I'm beginning to think someone with an agenda is intentionally blocking the group being formed here.? Seems there were two Yahoo groups covering the same subject and there has been friction.? It seems crazy, but I'm wondering if there is enough animosity for someone to intentionally block this group using its old name.?
I have seen this happen...folks setting up empty groups just to "lock in" the name. Unfortunately, there is no way to read people's intentions, malicious or otherwise.

I just tried using "Hipresurfacingsite" in the URL where the group name would go and it took me to "/g/surfacehippy" which is the competing group.? Is it possible to register a groups.io name and vector it to a different group?? Is this allowed by the site operators?
If you have a Premium group (and KEEP it Premium), you can have group aliases, just like the posting email aliases some people set up. For example, my group "ias-indy" has aliases of "ias" and "indianaastronomicalsociety"...if someone browses to /g/ias?they are redirected to ias-indy.

However, these aliases are subject to the same restrictions as a regular group name. If someone has usurped a name that you want, you won't be able to create an alias for your group that has that name, either. So at the end of the day, you're still going to have to come up with a new name for your group if you want it to reside here.

Sorry,
Bruce

Re: Group name taken, but not visible

It is easy to put a new name with slight variation from the existing name in Yahoo.
I had to do it for group here. It is that simple.

Dave -- The Welcome message is an entirely different message from the Direct Add message, therefore it stands to reason that they don't match. See the system help at?/static/help#membernotices.

You can only have one active Welcome message at a time. If you don't make one active, the system sends a default.

Regarding Direct Add...As with invite, you have to INSERT your custom text by pulling down the Notices menu and selecting one of your member notices of type Direct Add. If you don't select any member notice, nothing will be inserted. The idea is to have multiple templates of this kind that you can select from as needed. And again, the boilerplate surrounding your custom text cannot be changed or eliminated.?

Groups Settings: Be sure to update both the Group Email Address and the Group Title to reflect the change in group name. Also check the Message Footer and Subject Tag entries. More information at?/g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/Renaming-a-Group

I hope this helps, because it's the best I can do.

Bruce

You can't create a subgroup until the primary group gets approved. Wait awhile and it will work.

Re: Subscribing by email failing for one user

Thanks.
@Duane, yes I thought that too, but he has both replied to the invite email and sent a seepage email to the subscribe email address and gets the same error.
@Chris, yes he is btinternet; we have had all sorts of problems with btinternet and yahoo groups for years and hoped we might have escaped from that for those members! I will find out what email client he uses. We do have quite a few btinternet email members who have successfully joined, I can maybe ask some of them how they applied too.

Re: ¡°Invitation To Be Sent¡± message

Yup - there are several places where you have to change this - I¡¯m pretty sure I found them all..

Direct Add message to be sent missing active link

slc41

I'm moving the members of two groups from Yahoo - not transferring the groups, just using Direct Add. I note that the Unsubscribe "link" in the default message is not an active link, just underlined text. My tester noticed that she could not unsubscribe by clicking on it, so the text really is inactive. Apparently I can't edit the default message.?What can/should I do??
