What does the status page say?? Have you given the go ahead for that transfer?? The official deadline for transfers was yesterday, so there's no guarantee that a transfer will actually happen now.

Re: PG Offline

Not so. It will still be useful as a reader for the downloaded emails from the nearly 100 Yahoo groups I've been a member of over the past decade or so. I'm sorry you've had a problem with PGO. I've been using it for several years now, since I moved my first group, Metal-Shapers-and-Planers to groups.io. One thing you need to understand is that Wilson lives in the UK. Unless you live in Europe somewhere, he's likely asleep when? you're awake, and vice versa. Iv'e never had to wait for than a dozen hours for a reply from him, and his website has info on what's going on available 24/7. He's also been updating the PGO software to help folks get more of the stuff they need saved from Yahoo.? If I were going to blame anyone for your troubles, I'd blame OATH, the new owners of Yahoo. When did? you first learn about Yahoo shutting down Groups? I learned late in October, but soon enough that I was able to migrate several groups myself with my copy of PGO or for some of the smaller groups, strictly manually. If? you don't actually visit the Yahoo groups, you might not know yet. That would be OATH, not Wilson or PGO. There have been a LOT of groups migrating, and yahoo has been flaky as hell quite a bit for the past several weeks. That is also on OATH. I just finally pulled the trigger on upgrading my internet connection from 6mbps DSL to 100mpbs fiber. So if I lose anything, it will be my own fault, with a little to go to OATH.?

Hope that gives? you at least a little perspective.?

Re: Not receiving any emails from groups.io

Thomas,

It can be trickier than that. In my case, my email provider not only identified all the GMF messages as spam; it also notified Groups.io that spam was received at [myemailaddress].

Groups.io sent me an email saying that no further email would be delivered unless I clicked a link in the email. Once I did that, GMF emails began arriving again.

Did you get such an email from Groups.io? Did you click the link within it?

Larry

Re: PG Offline

Yes. Group-->Get Members for Current Group. It will export as CSV.

Re: Detailed Instructions on How to Conduct a Yahoo Transfer

Somehow the email address of my Group that I want to transfer got messed up and is not correct. Any idea how to correct it? I initiated the transfer but when I checked on it this morning that's when I noticed the error.

Thanks, Lee

That says to me that you haven't successfully sent the invitation from your YG for this transfer.

Re: Crickets

OK, here's the "East Yahoo Group Transfer" page (note my group is indicated was being underway at the bottom):

Easy Yahoo Group Transfer

Have a Yahoo Group that you want to transfer to Groups.io? We've made the process easy. Please read all of the following, as some of it has changed.

What We Transfer

We can transfer members, archives (without attachments, however), photos, files, links and databases.?Calendar entries are not copied at this time.

Premium Group Required

For the transfer, we ask that you sign up for the Premium Yearly plan (you can downgrade to free after a year if you wish).

Steps To Transfer Your Group

These steps?must be done in this order?otherwise the group transfer process will not happen.

  1. Create your new Groups.io group and upgrade it to premium for a year.
  2. Set up and start the transfer process by clicking the?Set Up New Transfer?button, below. You'll be asked to select your Groups.io group and for the name of your Yahoo Group.
  3. Send an invite?from your Yahoo Group?to?[email protected]
  4. We will accept the invite and then send you an email directing you to make the?[email protected]?member a moderator.
  5. After you have made the?[email protected]?member a moderator, return here, select your?Existing Transfer?transfer, and tell us that you are ready for the transfer to happen.?Your group must be signed up for the Premium Yearly plan.
  6. Once we receive the go ahead, as soon as we are able, we will download the member list and other parts of your Yahoo Group and directly add your members to your new Groups.io group.

Notes

  • We do not make any changes to your Yahoo Group. We simply make a copy of everything.
  • We will add all members that are currently confirmed and not bouncing to your group. Members' subscription preferences (email, no email, digest, etc.) will be preserved. Members' posting privileges (group default, override - moderated, etc.) will also be preserved. However, moderator and co-owner status will not be preserved, so all moderators will need to be reinstated after the transfer. If someone is already a member of your new group, we will not change anything about their subscription.
  • Unless you specify otherwise, we will send a notice to every member telling them about the transfer.
  • If you have created a customized welcome message for your group, we will also send that to each member who is not already a member of the new group.
  • We will send an email to the moderators and owners of the Groups.io group when the transfer is complete.
  • NOTE:?If the new group is a subgroup at Groups.io, you will receive two transfer notices, one for transfering the members to the parent group, and one for transfering the members to the subgroup (all members of a subgroup must be members of the parent group).

Thank you. Mission accomplished, and I initiated the transfer process (3 days ago). Per your instructions, I have invited ¡°[email protected]?<mailto:[email protected]>¡± to become a member of the existing Yahoogroup. In fact, since your instructions say to repeat the invitation every 6 hours, I have now done so half a dozen times. How many more times should I persist? (Your system says my transfer is underway, but you do not appear in the Yahoogroup membership roster and I therefore cannot make you an owner yet.)

Thanks Bruce. This is the answer I needed.

I was not seeing any activity that she had actually made the change. She told me she did but the activity didn't reflect it from my view of the activity areas. So now I know that if I can't see it recoded in the activity area then it didn't happen.

I had her follow the steps again. Then she did it a third time. Finally she succeeded in making the change. I then looked in both activity areas I saw confirmation that she had made the change.?

So another piece of knowledge under my belt. Thanks

Alas, it was suggested as a feature, and implemented as such. So it isn't seen (by the developer) as a bug to be fixed.

To get this (IMO mis-) feature changed would require a suggestion in the beta group.
In the post Shall linked Mark stated (inter alia) With digests, I think it's more important to have the reply window default to open than with individual messages. With an individual message, it's easy to reply within the email program. You can't do that with a digest. So I'd venture to guess that the majority of people clicking that link in digests, are doing so to reply.

There is IMO another argument against the way the system above operates, even if the logic that Mark used to arrive at the present arrangement is sound; personally I think it contains a serious flaw.

As should be obvious I set up this reply by highlighting a portion of Shal's post that I wished to quote; as a result that part of Shal's message was automatically imported into this reply. However, had I set up a reply by clicking on View/Reply Online in a Digest then the opportunity to preselect a portion of the original as a quote would not have been available because I would have been presented with a ready - to - go composition box. OK; I could have gone to the "original" and copied and pasted something to quote but without more work that quote would not have shown its originator, and it would not have been such an obvious "quote" anyway. Equally I could have clicked on Quote Whole Post but this not only results in overquoting but it may also not be readily apparent about exactly what I was responding to. I have not investigated what happens if Quote Whole Post is not clicked but on the face of it it ought to result in a post that is completely orphaned from what has gone previously.

So quite apart from the present View/Reply Online (from a Digest) configuration seeming (at least in some cases) to result in a collection of redundant drafts it is almost certain to result in a post that is isolated from what it is replying to, which in turn could / (does?) result in a source of puzzlement or confusion for the reader.

While I can (sort of) see Mark's reasoning I am of the view that presenting those who click View/Reply Online from a Digest post with no easy means of a selective quote is a mistake, and I would definitely agree with any request to dispense with the automatic composition box and present the "clicker" with just the online version of the post. Let those who wish to reply proceed from that point without clicking Reply for them.

Chris

Based on what Mark said in that link, "When you go to edit your transfer, if it's been submitted for transfer, you'll now see one of these 4 status lines:", you haven't started a transfer.? (We can't go to your edittransfer page because we're not you.)? BTW, these are now referred to as Stages on the status page to avoid confusion with the Steps for doing a transfer.

The Transfer Status page "says" nothing (here's the link /edittransfer?csrf=3112892993938751829&transfer=8726 ). ?I have not been asked for a go-ahead by Groups or Yahoo. ?Whose "deadline" was yesterday (of which I received no notice) -- Groups or Yahoo? ?As a backup, I requested and received a download from Yahoo more than ?a month ago, and so informed Mark. ?Groups has been both a member and a moderator since before then (will happily share as a PM my message thread with Mark at that time if that helps clarify matters). ?

Yuck!

I just checked and, indeed, a draft is saved even if nothing is typed. I am using current Chrome browser / Windows 10.

My test consisted of clicking on Reply in the browser and then closing off the browser, so it should be simple enough to reproduce. The desired functionality would be to delay opening a draft until there was some typing in the reply window.

I received notification of my invitation received/accepted by transfer/2groups.io but when I click on "View Existing Transfer Status," I see the page telling me to make sure I've sent the invitation & the notice will be updated upon receipt.? I would guess there's probably a backlog of last-minute requests (like mine), but is there a general timeframe for the process?? I'm trying not to unnecessarily panic. :)
