Gina, As Joeseph and J said, yes you can. In fact you need to create your Groups.io group before you can start the transfer (copy). There is no time limit for initiating the transfer. I say "copy"

Yes you can set up a test group. BUT think before naming it. Once a group name has been used, it becomes unavailable without jumping through some significant hoops. So the safest bet is to NOT name it
