main The subgroup needs to be their own group, in that case. The older members who are in the main group can belong to both if that makes sense for them. The new members would join only the new group.

By definition, subgroup members belong to the main group so you cannot do that. You would need to restructure how you do things and have committee messages in a subgroup that you restrict access to.

You can't change their profile, only their member information, specifically the Display Name ( /helpcenter/ownersmanual/1/managing-members/adding-or-updating-members-display-names
