First, make sure you're unsubscribing, not deleting your account. If you're hitting a red button and being forced to type "I understand," you're deleting your account, not unsubscribing from a group.

Are you logging in with your correct email address? Can you see Admin on the left menu? Any other owners? I would find one of your old messages in your mailbox and check to see what email address it

NMM is new member moderated. A change in terminology from new user moderated but means the same thing. I assume you have some who recently joined. See spam control section of this wiki page -
