Why are you still a member of the group.
I have left groups for less or a reason but if an?owner was rude?and said vile things to me I would be gone in a heartbeat. I am sure there are other groups that?are similar to that one that you can join. Ilene

Marvin,

... Then last night, he starts sending me vile rude, messages, ... and did report this owner of a few groups. But nothing came of it, the owner of , said to deal with it my self.

?
It is unfortunate that the person responded to you this way, but if those messages were sent outside of Groups.io (from his email to yours) then there's nothing Groups.io would do about it, regardless of that person being a group owner. The TOS is only violated if the offending material goes through Groups.io.

So have blocked these couple of people.

That's the best answer. Let their angry or offensive words be their own burden, not yours.

Upper limit is correct. The actual number of messages to be transferred will be less if messages have been deleted from the Y!group. I'm assuming Mark is counting only those that remain in the Y!group's Conversations section.

I can't think of a ready way to determine the number of remaining messages. Possibly could tell you that.

Thanks, everyone.? Upper bound is fine.? We are nowhere near the 100,000 message limit.

My own subscribers often struggle with this. However, none of the screenshots provided demonstrate that the subscriber is "clearly logged in."?

Have any person experiencing the problem pull down the "Your Groups" menu (on the blue bar at the top of the page). If your group does not show up in the resulting list, they are logged in under the wrong email address...if the "Your Groups" menu is absent, they aren't logged in at all.

Hope this helps,

When transfer agent becomes a member of your Y!G you will receive an email with further instructions. Until that happens there is nothing you can do but wait.

Re: Counting emails was Re: [GMF] In Process? AND vailidty of policy change

I suggest that everyone read the groups.io Terms of Service found at /static/tos

It's to be expected that any change of policy will meet with some resistance. At the same time, Mark owes no special duty of care to those who are not compensating him for his services. That's the way I see it.

Re: Counting emails was Re: [GMF] In Process? AND vailidty of policy change

Yes there is an easy way to see how many messages are in your current Yahoo group.

Simply go to ther home page, scroll down to see the month by month, year by year total and add them all up.
This is the total number of messages CURRENTLY in your Yahoo group.

The message number is the number of messages that have ever been posted on your group, including all messages that have been removed by yahoo, so is not an accurate figure at all.

At the end of the day, it is the number of messages CURRENTLY in the archives that will be transferred.

one thought on this change of policy.
If we signed up to groups.io and started the migration process BEFORE these new conditions came into effect, surely it is not legal to 'back-date' any policy changes. Meaning. That anyone that signs up to groups.io or perhaps starts the migration process AFTER the policy changes, providing it is made very clear on the migration page of the chages, then of course, the new policies can come into effect.
But not before.

I am by no means against people paying for the hard work of Mark and his colleages, and whilst persoanlly I think the sum asked is a bit on the steep side, it is a one off payment only, so is a 'good' way of doing it. It is just the fact that I have transferred the group, got most of the active memebrs all across and used to the new site, to now only be told that we may have to pay for the transferral of all the data, does seem rather 'over the top' at best and at worst, well I will not use that word, but it is not a legally good word.

It would be curious to know what other people think about this please.

Cheers
Alexis

Re: [email protected] not working for me

I have 9 YahooGroups and decided to transfer all of them. I've started with the smallest (6 members), least active (84 messages in 8 years. I would call it dormant, but I sent a message 6 days announcing the intended transfer and it worked, and the website works (except for "Change Cover" photo),

I've completed steps 1-9.

When do I click on "Update Transfer"?

Here is the process. It is not automated and will take several days. Do not do anything out of order.

  1. Go here:?/
  2. At the bottom of the page, you'll find a link that says "Easy Group Transfer." Click it.
  3. Scroll to the bottom of the subsequent page and click on the big blue button labelled "Yahoo Group Instructions."
  4. Read the instructions carefully. Bookmark this page, too. You will come back here several times.
  5. Create your groups.io group and configure it according to your needs.?[NOTE: You will receive an email when your request for a group has been approved. This alone could take up to a day.] (You have now completed Step 0 of the instructions)
  6. Once you have your groups.io group set up, return to the bookmarked page. Click on the big green button at the bottom that says "Start New Transfer."
  7. Enter the name of your Yahoo group and the name of your groups.io group. Do NOT enter any domain information (i.e.: leave off @yahoogroups.com or @yahoogroups.co.uk), just the group names.
  8. Click the big green "Start Group Transfer Process" button at the bottom of the page. (You have now completed Step 1 of the instructions)
  9. Go to your YAHOO GROUP (not your groups.io group) and log in. Send a membership invitation to "[email protected]." (You have now completed Step 2 of the instructions)
  10. BE PATIENT. Accepting the invitation could take several days, and requires human intervention (solving a CAPTCHA).?You DID send the invitation from your Yahoo group, didn't you?
  11. You will eventually receive an email stating that the membership has been accepted. (You have now completed Step 3 of the instructions)
  12. Return to your YAHOO GROUP and log in. Promote "[email protected]" to a Moderator.
  13. Now return to the groups.io page that you bookmarked in #4 above. Pull down the menu at bottom right and select the group you're ready to transfer. Tell groups.io to start the transfer. (You have now completed Step 4 of the instructions)
  14. BE PATIENT. The ability to actually do the transfer depends on how well Yahoo's servers are operating. We all know what that means, right?
  15. BE EVEN MORE PATIENT.?You may notice activity in your new groups.io group, which may reflect partial completion of the process. Do not obsess about this.?
  16. When the transfer is done, you will receive an email from the transfer agent summarizing what it was able to transfer. It will also list whatever things it was?not?able to transfer. Until this email is received, you aren't done yet.
  17. Rejoice.
Most of us have "been there" with this process before and it all sounds easy in hindsight. Ironically, the same thing that's causing most people to abandon Y!G (server downtime) is exactly the same thing most likely to get in the way of completing the transfer process. The best time to initiate a transfer is when Yahoo is performing well. If you procrastinate until things are crashing and burning, delays, incomplete transfers, and other such frustrations can be expected.

Hope this helps,
Bruce

#poll Permission Issues - Possible email link issue #poll

Hello,

We're getting reports from several users that they cannot answer Polls because of a permissions issue even though they are clearly logged in (see screen shot here).

I've checked the Hashtag settings:

Someone indicated that if the click on the email link they receive the error, but they were able to navigate from the main home screen and complete the poll.

Please help.

Thanks,
Dave

Re: Counting emails was Re: [GMF] In Process?

The most current msg# is the last used number, not necessarily the number of messages present (could be many deletions in a big long running group).? So the last used sequence number gives you the upper bound of the number of messages.
I found that you can count the number of messages by:
Conversations -> Actions -> Message History, then select the text of the table of message counts by month.
In Excel, open a blank worksheet and do Paste Special -> Select Paste As Text - and paste in the counts.
Use AutoSum to sum the rows, then sum the column of row totals.
In one group I'm in, the sequence # was?26021, but the total count of messages was 21799.

Clint,

Is there any way to see if progress is being made on my transfer from YahooGroups?

?

Latest word is that the transfer agent (Mark) is "woefully behind". No specifics on what that means, but he begs patience. .

?

Also a new twist: the most recent 100,000 messages transfer free - which should be accommodate most groups - but to get more messages an upgrade to Premium for at least one year is required ($110).

A statement to this effect has apparently been on the Transfer instruction page for over a week. But it isn't boxed (it is above the green and red boxes) .

The URL of each message on the Yahoo website contains the message number (same at io, I see), so just check the most recent one.

Visit your YahooGroup
Click on ¡°Conversations¡±
The most recent messages will be displayed.
The message # is in the lower right corner
The message # of the top (most recent) message is the total # of messages in your YahooGroup

There's a section on this in the GMF wiki:??/g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/Transfer-from-Yahoo-Groups#Afterward

I suggest you put the Yahoo group on moderation. This serves as a reminder to subscribers that the group has moved and also helps the Moderators/Owner identify people who haven't gotten the message yet. Those who feel the need to unsub from the Y!G will do so on their own.

For myself, after about two months of no activity I then deleted the Y!G.

Hope this helps,

Now, then, should I start un-subscribing members from YahooGroups? All, apparently, have received both messages from groups.io.

(One member said he couldn¡¯t locate my group on groups.io ... yet that email to me was written from the new group ... (g).)

The few subscribers who had a photo in their sig-line in my Group have been asked to remove the photo, because I find a blurry replica in the Photos section and have to delete it. So far all have complied.
