I agree with Duane. If the email address isn't valid, it will show up as bouncing, not unsubscribed, as soon as a few messages go out. Look for a B badge in the member's list. And you'll probably get

It's assumed that if a member got transferred (not bouncing on Y!), it was a valid email address, so no confirmation was needed.? If it's not and causes bouncing, that won't cause them to be

If you do manage to mute a topic online, that won't make it disappear from the message archive. Muting only affects email delivery. It's on that basis I believe you will only find a "mute this topic"
