Re: Hotmail post from owner rejected
Glenn,
No. GMF is purely user-to-user. It may be something they already know about, but since you seem to have checked the rational things to check, I suggest you send that same message to [email protected] Shal GMF Owner -- Help: /static/help More Help: /g/GroupManagersForum/wiki Even More Help: Search button at the top of Messages list |
Hotmail post from owner rejected
Glenn Folkvord
Hello,
?
I'm a relatively new Groups.io user who has been running an announcement-type list for a couple of months now, after abandoning Yahoogroups. Up until today it all ran smoothly.?
?
Starting today I am not able to post announcements to my groups.io account from my Hotmail web account. The message bounces and I get an error message as pasted below. My Hotmail adress is the owner of said groups.io group.??In fact, I was not even able to join this Moderator Forum with my Hotmail email and had to join with my secondary Yahoo account.?
?
I made no changes to my groups.io account or my membership. I checked a thread from last year that seemed to have this problem; "new subscriber cannot send message to group" by Bob B., where the solution was lacking or erraneous subject field. Someone else suggested the sender's email was not subscribed to the group or sent to the wrong groups.io adress. I double checked all of that and everything seems fine.
?
Then I contacted Hotmail support which suggest that the domain groups.io needs to be whitelisted to communicate with Microsoft's domains. Whitelistig can be done here:
?
https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/getsupport?oaspworkflow=start_1.0.0.0&wfname=capsub&productkey=edfsmsbl3&locale=en-us&ccsid=636094517133798255
?
Alternatively, the error might be because the domain groups.io is not configured correctly, Microsoft/Hotmail support suggests. "One needs to check that with the domain supplier" they say. Contact the whitelist support here:?
?
https://postmaster.live.com/snds/FAQ.aspx?
?
On that page there is a link called "If I have more questions, whom should I ask?" to get in touch with Postmaster for Outlook.com.?
?
More about whitelisting:
?
Hotmail support furthermore suggested that someone from the organization/company that runs groups.io looks into this because it's a commercial field, not an end user field.
?
Is this forum read by groups.io staff who might look into this or know something about the above?
?
I was able to log into my groups.io web interface and post from there, so the announcement did go out eventually, but I prefer to post from Hotmail.?
?
Thanks,
Glenn

Re: What does "Not Confirmed" mean?
The "not confirmed" concept is pretty straightforward but is rarely well-explained. In the following, I will often use the words "email address" and "account" interchangeably. In groups.io, they are the same thing.
It is possible to "create an account" (i.e.: a recognized email address) on groups.io by simply clicking on a subscription link. However, by this mechanism it is entirely possible to subscribe someone else's email address without their knowledge. The system needs to know two things at this point: 1) The person behind that email address really wants a groups.io account, and 2) The person is capable of receiving messages, or at least retrieving them in some way. To that end, a "confirmation email" is sent. Clicking on the link in that email confirms that at least one email got through and that the recipient really wants to receive more. At that point the "NC" status is removed and normal message delivery begins. "NC" status can also be removed if the user actually logs into groups.io using that email address. The presumption here is that the user will review group messages online; and might proceed to set their email delivery to "no email," although the latter is not a requirement to clear the status. To be absolutely clear, "NC" status is set for the account, not the group. Once an email address/account has cleared this once, that user can subsequently join other groups and receive messages immediately. More information on this than you might ever want to know can be found in the GMF wiki:??/g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/Status-Badges-in-the-Members-List? Those of you who feel this process to be a bunch of nonsense can override it all by paying for a Premium group and using Direct Add instead. Hope this helps, Bruce -- The system Help is your friend.??/static/help |
Can a monthly message be sent to the members automatically
#files
In Yahoo Groups, I had a letter with our group's guidelines that was stored in Files and automatically sent out each month. Does Groups.io have that feature? If so, would someone direct me to the site that has instructions on how to set that up? Thanks! |
Re: What does "Not Confirmed" mean?
? ? ?Thanks, everyone.? ?First time that happened.? Couldn't figure out what he might have done wrong.? What I did, while waiting for replies, is delete his membership and asked him to start over.? He obviously did it right this time because the "NC" icon no longer appears.

I said above "it is all rather confusing", and that is from the perspective ofI agree that it is all a bit confusing. In my (restricted) group we approved some members because they reacted to the Pending Member message introducing themselves, as required. Nevertheless, in the members' list they show with a NC badge. I sent them a confirmation mail but nothing changed. I'm not sure what to do. On the other hand, we have a pending member who's been sitting there for a quite while, since May 2. We sent him two confirmation mails with no success. I checked his delivery history and found this message dated May 3: "2.6.0 <[email protected]> [InternalId=11927124306244, Hostname=DB5EUR03HT080.eop-EUR03.prod.protection.outlook.com] 8748 bytes in 0.308, 27.729 KB/sec Queued mail for delivery " So, apparently, he did not even receive the two confirmation mails. Re: When I am just a member why doesn't the group I belong to show up in "My groups"

¿ªÔÆÌåÓýEllen, ? Don¡¯t give up. Try addressing (no pun intended) the problem by logging directly into Groups.io instead of doing it by email. That will avoid the ¡°From¡± problem. In your browser go to Log in using you OLD email address. You may need to create a password if you haven¡¯t used this address before. Select Your Groups. Make sure you have the correct account by looking at the page title and verifying your name and your OLD email address. You¡¯ll get a list of only those groups where you are listed with the old email address. Make a note so you don¡¯t lose them. Select the Groups checkbox and Select Actions > Unsubscribe. Confirm and your old account address should be removed. ? Now Logout (upper right corner) and log back in with your new email address. If any of your groups are missing, then use Find or Create a Group to find them and resubscribe. (Since you are getting ¡°already subscribed¡± messages, I think most will already be there.) ? Hope that helps, Randy T ? From: [email protected] <[email protected]> On Behalf Of Ellen Moody ? Alas I find I'm not capable of doing this. I can't join as I am because it's said I already am a member. When I hit unsubscribe on their email, I don't know what to do next and anyway it would come from my present address not the?older address?I want to unsubscribe. ? So I shall have to forego going over to site unless (which I did) I save this first email and anytime I want to go there, use it. ? This sort of thing is par for the course for me. ? Thank you all anyway. ? Ellen ? |

Re: Timeline for group transfers
Mark was on vacation for about 10 days and transfers were on hold during that time because they require manual intervention.? There was a backlog of about 400 transfers when he returned.? Depending on the backlog, size of the groups transferring, and a few other variables, it can take some time for your group(s) to get to the top of the queue.? I'd give it 2-3 weeks after you get the notice that the invitation has been received.? From what I've heard, that can seem like forever as things on YG continue to deteriorate.? Makes me really glad I moved here over 3 years ago before transfers piled up! ;>)

I did that same thing when I moved my group.? As I remember, it only took a couple of hours, and I received notification when they were sent.

Re: [email protected] not joining
I have two group transfers stuck at the "we have received the invitation" mode...? the system has not accepted the invitations for about a week.
|
Re: Timeline for group transfers
My first group transfer went well, but 2 more are "stuck" I sent the invitation to [email protected], the status checker says that it got the invite and get
"We've received the invite to your group and will accept it soon. There is no need to send another invite." but nothing happens, the invitation never get's accepted, since I see no pending members in these groups (largescale and VaioU70). The indications are that groups.io never accepted the invitation... and I did send the invitations again... looks broken... |
