¿ªÔÆÌåÓýThanks Duane, ? Was informed it could take a day or two so with all the issues taking place with Yahoo, wasn¡¯t certain that request (invite) actually went through after several? days assumed Yahoo failed to send invite and re did it.? From the info in the instructions, not clear that this wasn¡¯t an automated process and thus expectations of a short time frame was gotten.? Later in this forum (different thread) was informed that a live person manual step was involved and that person was away till May 2nd.? ? May be helpful to future users of this feature that in step 3 of your Yahoo Instructions, add some text explaining that this is a live person manual step and that it may take 2 to 5 days (or whatever the number is) to complete due to high volumes. ? Thanks for explaining the situation.? 400 - even with duplicates is surprisingly large number.? I guess Yahoo being unable to send or receive posts via email for nearly 2 weeks for many groups tipped many owners/moderators over the edge (me included). ? Have a good day ? Dan ? Re: UPDATE: My Owner/Moderator Status changed to Member Status . . . .
Well Shal,
Time now for me to eat some crow! This mornng I received a New Subscriber email message which was sent this time to my Gmail addy. Checked around further and found that I had, after all, saved my original CRL User Name and password under a Gmail addy. I was able to sign in and via that route I am finally being recognized as Owner of the group. (I had been trying signing in wth Gmail but using a password which I very often will use but it was the wrong one for my membershsip with the Gmail addy so I kept being denied Owner access.) Also while I was logged in as the original Owner I made my other member ID ¨Cthe one which has the AOL addy¨C an Owner, too. So now what I should have done to begin with as a CYA for this sort of thing is now firmly in place, thanx to Y'all's advice. (And if it isn't being encouraged, then making someone else a back-up owner for one's new group should be an up-front suggestion for everyone who's setting up a new one.) This has all definitely been a hands-on learning experience for me which I would not have unraveled without the comments and suggestions which you and several others had provided me! Regards, Paul Mitchell CRL Owner (again, at last!) == |

Members not getting emails - including me (owner/moderator)
I'm excited at the possibility of moving my listserve to this platform. But I've already had a major glitch. Assume there are 5 members plus me as the owner/moderator. When I send a message, it goes to all 5 members. When a member sends a message, it goes to 3 of the other members, but not to the other 2 and ALSO not to my address and I'm the moderator. My test members are sophisticated users and know to check spam folders. Because the initial invitations and confirmations all worked, it does not appear to be domain-blocking by an ISP or email provider and it is not limited to a given email platform; i.e. some with gmail accounts are affected, others are not affected. I have also set up test accounts (as member, not moderator) with other email services (gmail, AOL, private domain) and the problem seems unrelated to the email service.
As I'm the moderator with the highest level of privileges it makes no sense why I don't get the emails (sometimes, not other times). My actual Y! email group is nearly 400 and I don't want to go through the effort of moving if I'm going to have the same glitches here as Y! Any thoughts appreciated. |

Re: UPDATE: My Owner/Moderator Status changed to Member Status . . . .
Hello again Shal,
As you suggested, I tried logging out and back in using the AOL addy I signed up with. Doing so signs me out (and back in again) from/to all three IO Groups that I belong to, all at the same time. I also tried signng in using my Gmail addy and it is not recognized at all by Groups.io. I am positive that I only used my AOL addy with the three Groups.io sign-ups. But CostaRicaLiving was the only group of concern here since I can no longer access my Admin function from the L sidebar and am only consideded a member of CRL. And the odd thing is that yesterday I received an email alert (to my AOL addy) that a new member had signed up to CRL, so it seems that Groups.io is still recognizing me as the owner. And I did check for an email notice in my AOL spam folder (and in the trash) and there was no email from Groups.io with a resume notice. I know that I did not delete one because I always check my spam folder to see what was shunted into it. And I have no idea where else such an email alert might go to. The only other thing I can possibly think of is that I had changed my display name three days ago, but that didn't seem to cause any problem because my email addy was not altered and I was still at that time able to access the Admin functions. Still scratching my head about this whole thing. And once resolved I'll set up a 2nd owner from my Gamil addy, you can be sure. Paul M. CRL Owner/Moderator == |

How long does transfer from yahoo groups take right now? I put one in over a week ago (invited [email protected]), never got a ping back that transfer@ had subscribed. Thank you. |
Re: Invitation to +owner to connect on Linkedin
Marina,
? Go to your Group Settings and check "Visibility" ... some of the possible Visibility are tricky (they can be permanent/irreversible).? Yes, if you make changes here you can (will?) affect whether or not potential? new members can "discover" your group.? As I said before you will, at some point, have to make the difficult decision related to the trade off between being "open or closed". ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? - Jim B. |
Re: UPDATE: My Owner/Moderator Status changed to Member Status . . . .
If you had ever forwarded a message you received in email to someone, and if they for whatever reason clicked "Unsubscribe from this group" in the appended links, that might have removed you.
Whenever I forward something by email I am careful to delete any control links of that nature.? |

Linkedin spams every email address in every new sucker's address book. <<Thank you everybody for your answers and thoughts. Linkedin might be a spammer, but I have been on that network for quite a number of years and never had any problem, nor people on my address book ever complained about unsolicited invitations (and there are a few bellicose people on my address book). What I don't understand is how this person has my +owner address in her address book. She is not a member of my group (which, by the way, is very restricted and moderated. The only open door is my +owner address, thank you Jim Betz for drawing my attention to this) and she has never contacted me on the +owner address. If she actually wanted to connect with me on Linkedin, she could have just sent an invitation to my public profile. So far, I have simply ignored her invitations by deleting them from my mailbox. I cannot formally and definitively "ignore" them through Linkedin, as I would normally do, because the +owner address is not registered on Linkedin, thus the invitations do not show anywhere. There is an Unsubscribe link at the bottom of each invitation, but I hesitate to use it as I am not sure whether that would unsubscribe me from the regular invitations, too (= those going to my official profile). Re: Moving Files
Barbara,
The larger group (about 600 members) took that bit longer.? I have noticed that apart from 1 folder nothing of the Files section has been moved.? Will that just take that bit longer or will it have failed to be moved in the transfer? When the transfer is complete you (at the email address you logged in with when you initiated the transfer) will receive a summary message telling you what was copied and what wasn't. If you haven't received that yet, and your Y!group members haven't received their "You've been added" messages yet, then the transfer agent is still trying to retrieve all of the content from Yahoo Group's servers. If it fails to retrieve most of your Files see if you can access them from your Yahoo Group yourself. If you can't that's probably the problem. Keep looking back at Yahoo from time to time, if the files become available again later you can start a new transfer (with just that section checked in the list of boxes) to see if the transfer agent has better success then too. You might also want to try to see if it can retrieve the files. If it can then at least you have a copy to upload to your Groups.io group manually if you choose. I don't know if Groups.io can accept a PG Offline archive and upload it for you, that would likely be a special request to support. Re: My Owner/Moderator Status changed to Member Status . . . .
Paul,
... I received a message in my AOL inbox telling me (me, apparently as Owner/Moderator) that there was a new member who had just joined (=me). That message should have cited the email address of the person that joined. Was it your AOL address?
It tells us that the system still has your subscription under that AOL address listed as owner or moderator. ? But of couse I am not recognized on the Groups.io CRL Homepage as Owner/Moderator nor do I have Admin access when visiting there. If you hover over or click on your name in the upper right corner, what email address is shown? If it is not your AOL email address select Logout. Then log in again, this time using your AOL address to log in. So if at this point it's advisable that I contact IO Support is there any specific person there to whom I should address this problem I'm having? Not until we've verified that your problem isn't simply a matter of mistakenly logging in to Groups.io using the wrong email address. You can address your support inquiry to Mark, but it doesn't really matter if you address it to a specific person or not. My 3 groups were transferred from yahoo to groups.io last night.? I am thrilled how easy it went and how very fast with the 2 small groups.

Re: My Owner/Moderator Status changed to Member Status . . . .
OK Shal, Bruce, Duane ¨C As I mentioned previously, when I re-subscribed using the blue 'JOIN" button on my CRL (IO) Homepage I received a message in my AOL inbox telling me (me, apparently as Owner/Moderator) that there was a new member who had just joined (=me).
So, by my above remarks, I am apprently still Owner/Moderator in the IO bowels somewhere due to having received that new member alert (addressed to . But of couse I am not recognized on the Groups.io CRL Homepage as Owner/Moderator nor do I have Admin access when visiting there. And I did check the spam folder of my AOL addy and the same in my Gmail spam folder; nothing showed up in either spam folder. So if at this point it's advisable that I contact IO Support is there any specific person there to whom I should address this problem I'm having? TIA, Paul M. CRL(IO) Owner/Moderator == |
Re: Display Name Locked - Bug or Feature?
#display-name
It may be by design but why not restrict the same to the open sub-groups?? This inconsistent implementation acroos open and restricted groups is more the issue, IMHO.
I actually like the flexibility as in a family group I use my nickname, in the Ham group I use the call sign, in the business group I use my full name.? This saves creating a bunch of IO accounts and then juggling the logins. -- Mike, Mazama WA USA |
