What I don't understand is how this person has my +owner address in her address book. She is not a member of my group (which, by the way, is very restricted and moderated. The only open door is my +owner address, thank you Jim Betz for drawing my attention to this) and she has never contacted me on the +owner address. If she actually wanted to connect with me on Linkedin, she could have just sent an invitation to my public profile. So far, I have simply ignored her invitations by deleting them from my mailbox. I cannot formally and definitively "ignore" them through Linkedin, as I would normally do, because the +owner address is not registered on Linkedin, thus the invitations do not show anywhere. There is an Unsubscribe link at the bottom of each invitation, but I hesitate to use it as I am not sure whether that would unsubscribe me from the regular invitations, too (= those going to my official profile). Re: Moving Files
Barbara,
The larger group (about 600 members) took that bit longer.? I have noticed that apart from 1 folder nothing of the Files section has been moved.? Will that just take that bit longer or will it have failed to be moved in the transfer? When the transfer is complete you (at the email address you logged in with when you initiated the transfer) will receive a summary message telling you what was copied and what wasn't. If you haven't received that yet, and your Y!group members haven't received their "You've been added" messages yet, then the transfer agent is still trying to retrieve all of the content from Yahoo Group's servers. If it fails to retrieve most of your Files see if you can access them from your Yahoo Group yourself. If you can't that's probably the problem. Keep looking back at Yahoo from time to time, if the files become available again later you can start a new transfer (with just that section checked in the list of boxes) to see if the transfer agent has better success then too. You might also want to try to see if it can retrieve the files. If it can then at least you have a copy to upload to your Groups.io group manually if you choose. I don't know if Groups.io can accept a PG Offline archive and upload it for you, that would likely be a special request to support. Re: My Owner/Moderator Status changed to Member Status . . . .
Paul,
... I received a message in my AOL inbox telling me (me, apparently as Owner/Moderator) that there was a new member who had just joined (=me). That message should have cited the email address of the person that joined. Was it your AOL address?
It tells us that the system still has your subscription under that AOL address listed as owner or moderator. ? But of couse I am not recognized on the Groups.io CRL Homepage as Owner/Moderator nor do I have Admin access when visiting there. If you hover over or click on your name in the upper right corner, what email address is shown? If it is not your AOL email address select Logout. Then log in again, this time using your AOL address to log in. So if at this point it's advisable that I contact IO Support is there any specific person there to whom I should address this problem I'm having? Not until we've verified that your problem isn't simply a matter of mistakenly logging in to Groups.io using the wrong email address. You can address your support inquiry to Mark, but it doesn't really matter if you address it to a specific person or not. My 3 groups were transferred from yahoo to groups.io last night.? I am thrilled how easy it went and how very fast with the 2 small groups.

Re: My Owner/Moderator Status changed to Member Status . . . .
OK Shal, Bruce, Duane ¨C As I mentioned previously, when I re-subscribed using the blue 'JOIN" button on my CRL (IO) Homepage I received a message in my AOL inbox telling me (me, apparently as Owner/Moderator) that there was a new member who had just joined (=me).
So, by my above remarks, I am apprently still Owner/Moderator in the IO bowels somewhere due to having received that new member alert (addressed to . But of couse I am not recognized on the Groups.io CRL Homepage as Owner/Moderator nor do I have Admin access when visiting there. And I did check the spam folder of my AOL addy and the same in my Gmail spam folder; nothing showed up in either spam folder. So if at this point it's advisable that I contact IO Support is there any specific person there to whom I should address this problem I'm having? TIA, Paul M. CRL(IO) Owner/Moderator == |
Re: Display Name Locked - Bug or Feature?
#display-name
It may be by design but why not restrict the same to the open sub-groups?? This inconsistent implementation acroos open and restricted groups is more the issue, IMHO.
I actually like the flexibility as in a family group I use my nickname, in the Ham group I use the call sign, in the business group I use my full name.? This saves creating a bunch of IO accounts and then juggling the logins. -- Mike, Mazama WA USA |

I'm pretty sure that this is by design.? One person having several Display names within one group that includes subgroups could be very confusing to folks.

Re: UPDATE: My Owner/Moderator Status changed to Member Status . . . .
Paul,
I was actually unsubscribed from CostaRicaLiving and had to re-subscribe. If you were unsubscribed for spam, as Bruce suggests, then you would have been sent an email from Groups.io to resume your subscription. That may have gone to your Spam folder, so be sure to look there. The link in that message is good for three days, so there may still be time to recover your prior subscription (the one with owner status).. ? After I resubscribed I was only a member but oddly enough I received a Moderator Alert to my email that a new member had joined (that was me, of course) but when visiting the group I still have no Administrative Access in the left sidebar. Again, make sure we're talking about the same email address.? If you re-subscribed under the same email address which had been owner, rather than resuming, I don't know what happens. The new subscription may block the resume under the same address, or maybe the resume (if you find it) will bump you back to owner. In any case, going forward Bruce's suggestions about having a second owner in the group, even if it is just another email address for yourself, is something I endorse (and practice with my own groups). Re: My Owner/Moderator Status changed to Member Status . . . .
Paul,
I logged into Groups.io just now and found that I am no longer Owner of my IO group and thus have no access. Are you sure you logged in with the same email address as the one that owns the group? In Groups.io each subscription email address is its own account ID, so group subscriptions you have under one email address do not carry over to other email addresses you may have. ? How can I resolve this and recover the ownership of my group?? (I was the only Owner but there were two other Moderators.? Also the group is inactive right now with only moderators allowed to post.) If you can find evidence of which email address of yours owns the group, try logging out and then logging in with that email address. Re: Display Name Locked - Bug or Feature?
#display-name
Bruce,
Good point and something that a member in one of my restricted group mentioned...that if you edit your Display Name is the Main group, it will proprogate down through all the subgroups by default. What I didn't know was that your main group is restricted yet will still allow Display Name edits.? So the the main group is exempt so to speak from the edit restriction while any restricted subgroup does not permit any Display Name edits except through the main group or via the account profile (master profile). Sure seems an unintended restriction or bug.? Should I send this off to bugs or another group for higher authority review? Thanks again. -- Mike, Mazama WA USA |

Gentle GMF Members,I see that you have an AOL email address. AOL is notorious for their feedback loop mechanism for spam filtering and may have flagged a GIO message as spam. Check your spam folder for any group messages and also look for any messages asking you to click on a link to resub. Click on that and you will be reinstated immediately...otherwise you may have to contact [email protected]?for assistance. I highly recommend that you set up a reliable second person with Group Owner status so you have someone to troubleshoot this problem if it ever recurs. Another option is to get yourself a second email address (from GMail or some such) and make that address an Owner so you have something to fall back on. Good luck, Bruce |

Re: webmail
Judy,
Your subscription in GMF appears to be normal, with individual messages being sent to and accepted by your email service. If you joined that particular group with the same email address, maybe you need to check your subscription settings for that group? To do that visit the group on the web, then on the left click the Subscription button. Otherwise I'm stumped. Maybe you have a filter either in your email service or in OE that blocks messages from all groups except the ones you've previously "whitelisted" or otherwise allowed? Or maybe your issue relates to this one: /g/GroupManagersForum/message/8028 Shal -- Help: /static/help More Help: /g/GroupManagersForum/wiki Even More Help: Search button at the top of Messages list |

Sorry if I did not make this clear.I just checked into your group, based on your message footer. You seem to have 14 subgroups, some of which are open, others are restricted. Is that what you're talking about? I have no experience with subgroups...others will need to look into that and report back. But I can think of no logical reason why display name should be locked based on the spam control settings.?If that's actually the case, it sure sounds like a bug. Regards, Bruce |

Did you receive any emails from groups.io asking you to click on a link to unbounce your account? Failing that, it could be that the group just doesn't have much traffic right now and you'll soon receive something. You could try sending the group an email yourself and see what happens.
