Hi Bruce,
This applies to groups that are restricted.? Open groups are no issue.? As this group is open, the Display Name works correctly for a direct edit. I tested this both with my owners account on my restricted group as well as a test account on the restricted group. Sorry if I did not make this clear. Thanks you, -- Mike, Mazama WA USA |

Re: webmail
Judy,
I'm not sure what you mean here. Groups.io does not offer a webmail service, not in the sense that Yahoo offers Yahoo Mail anyway. ?
Once you have messages from Groups.io appearing in your email interface it should work with any group subscriptions you have. Unless you've subscribed to some groups under a different email address. Love groups.io, just wondering if there is a way to disable private email for entire group. If you want to disable "reply to sender" (per your message subject), go to Admin->Settings->Message Policies. Select "Reply to Group" from the pull-down and check the "Remove Other Reply Options" box. If you want to keep subscribers from contacting each other via the Directory, the only way I know to do that is to make the Directory invisible to them. Same page, "Privacy" section, pull down the menu and select either "Moderators and Owners" or "Member Directory is Disabled." Hope this helps, Bruce |

However, if they have only the latest message and wish to look up the discussion on the website, the current Topic may be unrecognisable.Incoming emails are grouped into a topic by subject line (the hashtag is part of the subject line). If you change the subject line online but someone replies to an email that was already sent out with the original subject, it shows up as a new topic.?If you're concerned about this, the only way to remedy it is to keep merging the topics as new emails filter in. If people show lots of interest in the topic and it generates a lot of traffic this process can become quite burdensome. For that reason I try to resist the urge to correct posts in this manner. See also this post on merging hashtags:?/g/GroupManagersForum/message/7610 Of course, the link in the email footer would take them to the right message regardless of the Topic (I hope). The link in the footer is based on the message number in your group, which should not have been altered by your edit. Linkedin spams every email address in every new sucker's address book. There are currently 6625 public groups in the groups.io directory. Just because the spammer sent the message from LinkedIn is no reason to believe Marina's address book was compromised. Having said that, I agree LinkedIn has certainly become a spammer's playground in the last few years. Let's hope that doesn't happen to groups.io. Bruce |

Y!G Getting Worse...
I just received a digest from a Y!G containing 15 messages. The first message in that digest is dated March 13.
Small wonder so many folks are really anxious to get their transfers completed right now. I just hope they understand that with this kind of performance on Yahoo's end it may not even be possible. Has anyone actually completed a transfer lately? Bruce |

Display Name Locked - Bug or Feature?
#display-name
I'm having some issues getting my members in one of my groups to edit their Display Name in, what is a restricted group, any restricted group for that matter.
For example, in any open group (no moderator approval to join needed), one can modify their Display Name via their Subscription/Group Profile/Edit Group Profile.? No issues there in an open group. Now when trying to do the same thing within a restricted group, Display Name is not editable.? One must go into their Account/Identity/Groups Profile (your master profile) to make that Display Name change.? You can't change a restricted group (Group Profiles below your Account Profile) here either.? But you can change unrestricted groups here without issue. I can find nothing on Display Names restrictions in the FAQ or anywhere on groups.io? I don't know if this is considered normal to restrict the display name in a restricted group but see no reason for the restriction either. So is this a bug or a feature?? I suggest that it is a bug and will be addressed.? Comments welcome. Mike, Mazama WA USA |

Either I edited the Topic or merged messages from another Topic under this one, and I changed both the subgroup and corresponding #hashtag spelling from "docuwiki" to "dokuwiki".

Re: Change the initial "Thank you for your interest..." email
Hi Shal, ? Thanks for the reply and the explanation of how the initial emails work.??I do have some suggestions/comments.??I¡¯ll express part of them here, and leave the rest for the beta group. ? The wording of the default message is misleading/wrong and should be corrected.??It says ¡°¡reply to this email to confirm your email address and activate your membership.¡±??That is great, unless your group, as many are, requires moderator approval.??The reply does not ¡°activate¡± their membership.??This is misleading the user, and likely at a time when they are new to Groups.io, leaving them asking why their membership did not get activated.??To me this is not something that is a ¡°let¡¯s consider for the next release,¡± but an error which should be fixed. ? If they do ¡°reply¡± to the initial email they get a response that says ¡°If any of the groups you subscribed to require approval before joining, you will be notified when that happens.¡±???That assumes they understand the difference between ¡°confirmed¡± and ¡°approved.¡±??Which I would submit is not very likely for someone new to Groups.io. ? If the click on the ¡°Confirm account¡± link, they are taken to the confirmed page, but they still need to be approved, and there is nothing on that page about the approval process.??Then if you click on the group you just joined, it takes you to their ¡°home¡± page, but still says nothing about the approval process.??Only when you click on one of the side tabs do you get the ¡°Your subscription has not yet been approved.¡± message. ? The system knows the group requires approval, and the messages sent to the user should reflect the fact that a moderator has to approve the account.??Why not customize the messages to reflect what the end user needs to know???Something like:?? ? The group you have requested to join requires a moderator to approve the membership.??While you are waiting for that approval, please confirm your email address by replying to this message, or use the Confirm Account link to?set up a password, and choose other subscription settings.??Once the moderator has approved your account, you will receive an email notification. ? For what it is worth, Tom |
