Re: Replies set to Group but users are getting senders email address in From
William,
I think that needs to be reopened as it is an issue where eople don'tI don't particularly care about this proposal, but you can reopen this issue yourself on beta. The topic I cited happens to be locked now, but you could start a new one (and cite that one and/or others). You might want to do a search there for the word "anonymous", as that became the common description of such groups. Click the Tools button and Collapse Topics to help manage the clutter. You'll find a huge amount of discussion, pro and con. And a few different ideas on exactly what it means. Re: Emails when a member leaves one of my groups
Sarah,
do all of these apply to any sub groups as well? I'm assuming yes?You have an independent Subscription page in each subgroup. So you could, for example, receive one of these notices in one subgroup, another in another subgroup, and a different set of them in the primary group. Re: Emails when a member leaves one of my groups
Go to your group and then click on Subscription on the left menu: Near the bottom above "Owner Email" you should see: Notifications Email when there are messages needing approval. Email when there are members needing approval. Email when a member joins/leaves this group. Email when group storage limits are reached. Email when someone creates or deletes a subgroup. Email when someone reports a message. |
Re: Signatures
Harrison Spain,
I have both boxes checked (for web based posting, and email posting) to add the signature block regarless of method used to post. Did you click the blue Save button down at the bottom of the Subscription page? ? I send an email to the group (with no signature) expecting my signature block in my to be added.? The email arrives... but no signature block. Is it also missing a standard Groups.io footer? Ooooh. I was heading somewhere else but... Do you have your email interface set to show you the plain text version of your messages? There's a longstanding bug that group footers are missing from the plain text version of mixed messages (those with both a plain and HTML part, which is most HTML formatted messages). It appears the sig is also missing there. I'd forward the message (particularly if you can forward as an attachment) to [email protected] and report it as a bug. Also cite the group and message number, so Mark can compare the two. Maybe this will be the motivation he needs to fix the missing footer too. Re: Database, Adding New Links
Bill,
Maybe I was not clear enough. Affirmative. I thought you were talking about adding a link to the table that came from the Links section of your Y!Group. Likely I should have cited GMF's wiki page about Using a Database: /g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/Databases ? I guess I want to "Create" a new table. The only place to add a link while creating a table is to add it to the table's Description. Use the Insert/edit link tool in the formatting toolbar to add it to the content of the Description. Otherwise you're back to the circumstances of my prior email, though possibly using a table you created instead of one that already exists. If you want the link to be one of many, in rows of the table, then you add a Column to the table of type Link. You don't actually add the URL while creating the table - you're creating a place to put the URL. After you've added all the columns you want to the table, and clicked the blue Create Table button at the bottom, you can now add rows to the table which contain links (and other column data, if you added any). You then enter the URL when using the View/Edit Row button (as in my prior email). Re: Database, Adding New Links
Bill
Maybe I was not clear enough.
I want to add an entirely NEW item or NEW link that my members can click on and go to. I don't want to add a new link to an existing database item, I guess I want to "Create" a new table. I can create the new table but I don't know where to put the actual Link, there are no fields that I can find for putting in the URL. Therefore, in the creation of the new table, where do I put the URL ? ?I am an owner. So how is it done ? |
Re: Database, Adding New Links
Bill,
For the life of me, I cannot figure out how to add a new link in the database section. ?
At the bottom of the table you should find a green Add Row button. See the screenshot below.
If not and you're not a mod or owner, the permissions for this table may not have been set to allow members to add rows.
Why is it called database anyway, it was called "Link" on Yahoo. ?
Groups.io doesn't have a Links feature, so the transfer agent copies a Y!Groups links into a Groups.io Database table. This feature was actually called Database on Y!Groups too - so you may have tables that were copied from your Y!Group's Database section as well.
? Dissecting the links, I can find no field that contains the actual link address. ?
The link column should contain links on the first line of each row, a description on the second line:
![]() In each row, the item colored blue is a link. In most browsers you can expose the underlying URL (address) by hovering on the link (if you have the status line enabled). Otherwise you have to view/edit the row:

Re: Groups.io and GDPR compliance
I originally drafted the text below to send to Beta, but Mark closed the topic
there before it was sent. Since the subject is still being discussed here I thought the content might provide some reassurance to group owners and moderators. In any case, I'm sure Mark will provide any necessary guidance once his lawyers have done their work on the subject: This quote from Article 17 Right to erasure (`right to be forgotten?) of the actual regulation would perhaps solve the problem of quotes included in other people's messages when someone exercises this right, under the "freedom of expression" and possibly the also the "archiving" exceptions: "3.Paragraphs 1 and 2 shall not apply to the extent that processing is necessary: (a) for exercising the right of freedom of expression and information; (b) for compliance with a legal obligation which requires processing by Union or Member State law to which the controller is subject or for the performance of a task carried out in the public interest or in the exercise of official authority vested in the controller; (c) for reasons of public interest in the area of public health in accordance with points (h) and (i) of Article 9(2) as well as Article 9(3); (d) for archiving purposes in the public interest, scientific or historical research purposes or statistical purposes in accordance with Article 89(1) in so far as the right referred to in paragraph 1 is likely to render impossible or seriously impair the achievement of the objectives of that processing; or (e) for the establishment, exercise or defence of legal claims." This provision in the lengthy introductory statement para 13 may also make life easier for Groups.io, but not for Yahoo groups (unless group owners and moderators are counted as voluntary employees for this purpose): "To take account of the specific situation of micro, small and medium-sized enterprises, this Regulation includes a derogation for organisations with fewer than 250 employees with regard to record-keeping. In addition, the Union institutions and bodies, and Member States and their supervisory authorities, are encouraged to take account of the specific needs of micro, small and medium-sized enterprises in the application of this Regulation. The notion of micro, small and medium-sized enterprises should draw from Article 2 of the Annex to Commission Recommendation 2003/361/EC (1)." However, I'm sure Mark's lawyers will sort it out for him, in so far as that is possible in advance of any court rulings. Re: Database, Adding New Links
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýI didn¡¯t use a database to make a links page. I followed direction found on this forum in making a Wiki page, and it works good in making a links page. It takes a little patience in understanding how it works, but once you get the hang of it you¡¯ll like the results. ? On Yahoo the Links page was not the same as the Database page was. ? Don ? Re: #poll Creating Polls
#poll
I guess I'm not understanding how these polls work. I created a poll and the poll send an email to the group. When my members click on the "Vote Now" link they are getting a message that they do not have permission to be on that page. My settings are "Only moderators can create". Shouldn't that still allow subscriber members to vote??
Thank you, Marie Alline |

Re: Automatic Deletion of Members If Message Marked As Spam
#poll
Keep in mind that this is not up for a vote. So far I don't think anything has been suggested here that hasn't already been mentioned to Groups.io (Mark) in the beta group. My own take is that the only workable alternative to unsubscription is a separate status that works like Bouncing, but is group specific. That would stop further messages (but not member notices) to that address, yet allow the person to remain a member and read/post the group via web access. cf: beta #
I'm going to call on that one. I don't think there's anyone at Yahoo / Oath / Verizion paying attention to what's happening in Y!Groups. Certainly not enough to implement something as pro-active as that. Shal-- Help: /static/help More Help: /g/GroupManagersForum/wiki Even More Help: Search button at the top of Messages list |
Re: Automatic Deletion of Members If Message Marked As Spam
#poll
Chris,
I had a look at the activity log on the Group I moderate, and it was clear that aol had by far the greatest number of deletions, but of course that may be a reflection of how many users were using aol, rather than any indication that aol has the most aggressive spam spotter. That's true in GMF as well, with AOL edging out hotmail 5 to 4 instances. But I've not investigated the number of GMF members using each service or otherwise attempted to interpret the result. There's only a handful of instances in the rest of my groups put together. Which I think more reflects their small size and activity level than anything else. ? Now all that is needed is to get Owners and Moderators to copy it into their own wiki sections. There's no need to copy it, they can link to it. I deliberately made GMF's public so that anyone can cite it in messages or notices. Copying and adapting it to your own group's circumstances is fair game too - but for most usages I recommend a link back here in case there are subsequent updates here.
